Clothes for sahm...

I'm a new stay at home mom. What are some cute but comfortable outfits I can wear during the day?
Tired of wearing lulu lemon all the time considering I'm not working out. Thanks!

Depends on your style, budget, general look as to wear you will want to shop but I will give you a brief o review of what I wear based on seasons.

Fall/winter: skinny jeans with flats, riding or cowboy boots. I have lots of blazers, sweaters, tunics that can be mixed and match with the jeans. I have 3 pairs of Paige jeans and just bought 4 pairs of colored old navy skinny jeans to rotate in. Way I figure it, they were so cheap I don't care if they don't make it more than this winter.

Spring/summer: shorts (I have about 20 pairs of Lilly/jcrew//vineyard vines colored/printed shorts). I wear them mostly with white tshirts. I also have a load of sundresses I think are daytime appropriate.

OP--how old are you kids? I am a SAHM (14 month old twins) too and before that I had been working and had a lot of business suits and business casual and nice casual. Other than that I had my "gardening and painting' type clothes--t-shirts, work out clothes--etc. I needed something in between that was comfortable for getting on the floor (without plumbers butt) or going to the park or mall and that could handle frequent washings because I am constantly getting splashed with food or formula or whatever. For me, at this stage, I have a bunch of shorts and shirts and tank tops (I get hot easily) that I got at Sears (lands end), Target, Kohl's. Before kids, I typically wore higher-end clothes (CAbi, Ann Taylor, GAP, J. Crew--etc.) but for now, I just keep it very casual and affordable because I don't want to be upset when something gets ruined. Kohl's has some cargo/capri-type paints with little spots of elastic that are nice on my post-pregnancy tummy but even more importantly prevent the embarrassing situation where your pants gape out and show your bottom or your underwear. I love those pants.

Not the OP, but I got a Garnet Hill catalogue in the mail this week and was thinking of ordering some tops and sweaters. How does their sizing compare to J Crew? I wear a small in J Crew tshirts and sweaters. Also, is Garnet Hill's quality as good as it used to be? I had some of their tshirts many years ago, and they were great.

I don't understand why the SAHM wardrobe is such a mystery to people - you must have worn casual clothes on weekends and evenings when you were working right? Why would your new SAHM wardrobe differ from that?

It was a transition for me. Pre kids, I had to wear suits to work or slightly less dressy, but not business casual. For the weekends, I only had a few lounge around outfits and then "going out" clothes. I didn't own things like ballet flats or riding style boots. Just work heels and f-me boots and heels for going out.

You didn't have "meeting a friend for coffee" or "heading to a winery for a picnic" clothes/shoes?

Op here. Thanks for the responses. I have work clothes and weekend clothes but am looking for in between clothes. I used to wear yoga pants on weekends but dont want to wear that everyday now that I'm home. Any other more specific recommendations, like stores you go to? Thanks!

Boden also has good casual wear.

Good question OP. It is a huge change for some people, including me, so I would be curious to know also. I don't really think everyone/anyone has the time to be categorizing their clothes to the extent of PP, thankfully.

still doesn't make sense to me either (not the PP above)

You go shopping. You see clothes. You know clothing that's for girls' night out. You know clothing that's for a night out with your husband. You can't recognize outfits - likes jeans and a tee - appropriate for daily wear?

You should have kept your job.

and F-me boots? really, OP?

Oh, take the prune out of your ass, lady. I'm 45 and still buy (rarely) fuck me shoes. Perhaps you're too out of it to be hip with lingo, but it just means sexy high heels.

This seems like a perfectly reasonable question and was my exact dilema. I think fitted t-shirts work well as well as things like tanks tops (think shells) that can be worn with cardigans. I either worked, lounged around or went out to party so also had very few in between clothes. WHen I had to start going to things like Little Gym with my little one I realized I either had office clothes I could wear or low cut type shirts which would NOT have been appreciated so I started stocking up on nicer t-shirts.

Ny &Co is relatively inexpensive and you could get some cute tops- just look for clothes that would be on the more casual end of business casual
