Where did you get it prescribed? from your doctor? weight loss center? Calibrate? other? |
Has anyone here tried Alpha Medical? I'm so frustrated. I'm with One Medical and went to my doctor in OCTOBER (2021) about trying Wegovy or Ozempic. I'd gained 45 lbs from 2020 to 2021. She wanted me to meet with a nutritionist, a doctor specializing in weight loss, and a mental health provider. Did all of that and also gained an additional 20 pounds. We had a virtual follow-up in March but she wants me to come in again to discuss options. I thought that's what we did in October and March?! |
Here’s the thing, if you really need it, your doctor will prescribe it and your insurance will approve it (possibly after making you try a few other less expensive, with fewer side effect drugs). If you are Karen who weighs 150 and wants to lose 15 lbs, then no, you don’t need it, you’re not going to get someone to prescribe it to you. |

This is false. Insurance companies will routinely deny people who exactly met FDA approved label criteria for Wegovy - by adding on a bunch of bogus additional preauth hoops that weren't in the FDA approval or the original clinical trial. They do this because a) they want to save money by not paying for this in the short term and b) because they can. Not true. I posted just above you about my experience trying to get it from One Medical. I’m 5’1” and over 200 lbs now. My insurance won’t cover Wegovy at all but may cover Ozempic. |
Yes, PP doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I am on Ozempic and could not get it covered with a BMI of 40 and metabolic syndrome, though technically not diabetic. I wanted to keep fighting and my doctor was like, look, I can’t get some insurance to cover my patients who are 450 pounds and in danger of losing a foot from diabetes, it’s not going to happen for you. |
And this is so sick, because the medical costs of keeping a morbidly obese person alive for decades are super high. My FIL is a cardiologist working for big pharma and he always says treating heart disease is much more lucrative than preventing it, so why try to prevent it. The entire system is broken. |
Why not? Do you have to have Diabetes? |
Yes |
