This is false.  Insurance companies will routinely deny people who exactly met FDA approved label criteria for Wegovy - by adding on a bunch of bogus additional preauth hoops that weren't in the FDA approval or the original clinical trial.  They do this because a) they want to save money by not paying for this in the short term and b) because they can.

Yes, PP doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I am on Ozempic and could not get it covered with a BMI of 40 and metabolic syndrome, though technically not diabetic. I wanted to keep fighting and my doctor was like, look, I can’t get some insurance to cover my patients who are 450 pounds and in danger of losing a foot from diabetes, it’s not going to happen for you. And this is so sick, because the medical costs of keeping a morbidly obese person alive for decades are super high. My FIL is a cardiologist working for big pharma and he always says treating heart disease is much more lucrative than preventing it, so why try to prevent it. The entire system is broken. [/quote]
