You forget that even if many kids don't get a severe case, some do. Also, don't forget all the adults in the building. They may be vulnerable or have vulnerable family members at home. You want a lot of subs teaching your kids? I'd rather have mine taught by a real teacher, even if it's distance. |
Nobody forgets that. But kids also get severe cases of the flu, in fact, they are much more likely to get a severe case of the flu than of Covid. So please drop that argument, unless you want to close schools during flu season from here on out. |
You are an idiot.

The article literally says COVID is more deadly than the flu... except for kids. Where there are very few cases. It points out the rate inflammatory syndrome... of which there have been 100 cases (it says). That is obviously still far fewer than kids who get seriously ill from the flu. Then, on top of that, the article points out the inflammatory reaction can be to other viruses too, so some of those 100 cases may not even be COVID reared. I am curious exactly what you thought this article proved. Did you read it? |
FOR INFO ONLY -
Fairfax County announced their plans for fall today. there are 2 options and families can choose. Details here https://www.fcps.edu/node/41353 Excerpt: "There are two choices. Both choices will offer all students new instructional content and student work will be graded. The choices are: A. Full-time online instruction. Virtual, interactive instruction will be provided four days a week. Or B. At least two full days of instruction in your child’s school each week with students engaged in independent study and work on the days they are not in the school building. It’s possible we will be able to provide more than two days of instruction at school each week depending on the number of students who choose to go virtual, full time. One day each week will be set aside for teacher planning and intervention support for some students in either scenario. The plan also includes increased in-person or synchronous instruction for Special Education students and English Language Learners. Additional details about the plan will be shared with the community in the weeks ahead as they are developed. Teachers will also be surveyed for their return-to-school preferences." |
How the hell is this going to work? |
You act as though you just discovered this possibility. This is literally what has been the front runner for DC for almost two months now. How are you surprised? |
Are you seriously surprised??? Where have you been? |
I think we will get a version of this - but probably only one day in person a week.
Classrooms are MUCH bigger in FFX schools than in DC. |
Why do you say once a week? Hunch based on classroom size or do you have a source? Thanks! |
Why would full time DL be only 4 days/week? |
They are probably taking away daily planning time for teachers to allow more instructional time, then giving teachers one day a week for planning. |
It is literally explained in the excerpt above. Teacher planning AND to make time for additional support to students with disabilities, ELLs, etc. |
Classroom size. Most can only have 5-6 students + teacher and maintain 6' social distancing. So to get everyone who doesn't choose to opt-out of in-person some time in the classroom, kids would have to be split into 4 groups. To me the question is whether under-enrolled schools will be allowed to have more in-person learning than a space-challenged school like Deal or Wilson. |
And that as a best case scenario. |
