The message: Poor people need to get out.

When poor people are displaced to suburbs they lose access to jobs and services. Look at what happened to the public housing residents of MD who were moved to places like Glen Bernie, Beltsville, and Gaithersburg.

So you are advocating to concentrate poor people in the cities ? Didn’t that fail in the 50s and 60s?!

That makes no sense. I live in Ward 4 and they are building high-end condos everywhere. Pretty soon Ward 4 will be predominantly white. Huge, huge change.

They’re not building condos on Cresteood. In fact, the comprehensive plan proposals provide additional protections to “ preserve neighborhood character” even while the comp plan changes would diminish zoning safeguards in other neighborhoods.

You do know Singapore is pretty much a really pleasant police state, full of 3rd country nationals who scrub everything round the clock?

This.

Is this what you want for the US? No thanks. Though I guess it sometimes feels that we’re headed in that direction. Maybe this is why there is so much support for undocumented immigrants. Make sure there is a strong class of people to scrub the floors and clean everything up.

Being gay for men is illegal and they "cane" for gay infractions. Smoke weed and you might do years. Singapore is a police state.

Especially if we are going to have to be independent of the federal government and potentially our neighboring states on a variety of fronts.

Ah, so now it’s that DC needs build tall and dense in our neighborhoods so that DC can afford statehood. That’s a really compelling proposition.

Dc has a surplus...I dont really get y need more $ plus, as a district fed govt. Pays for sooooooo much. We are super lucky.

No graffiti, either. Sounds like an OK deal to me.

If you notice, Ward 4 (which is full of evil SFHs) was mostly exempted from comprehensive plan changes. If you also notice, Bowser lives there.

So does a consultant to the Office of Planning, a fellow at a DC think tank, an unabashed cheerleader for “smart growth” and ending SFH zoning in Ward 3.

Thank goodness for single family homes.

This.

Yep. But it’s all cool because any country is better than the US, amirite? The US is the pits, at least according to the Democrats.

DP but I like the US a lot and I also like Singapore, and China, and a bunch of European countries. Personally the US is the best country for me to be in right now. That could always change. I want to be in the country that gives me the best lifestyle for what I do. A lot of that has to do with money. I have to admit, walking around China, living there for a few weeks at a time, I can’t tell the difference in my daily life. When I was in Singapore there were some odd rules. I recall that my friends advised that I not make any disparaging comments about any religions, even jokingly. That was a bit of a turn off. But if someone offered me a 50% raise to move to China or Singapore, or any Western European country, I’d take it. I can sacrifice a little freedom of speech (a little) for some nice money

DC has some taxbreaks, like the homestead act, to help residents stay. They could look at more things like that? But if a neighborhood is gentrifying they may see a chance to make a buck? You can't forbid them to sell and move to the burbs, and you are correct--it is then near impossible to get back 'in' on the market .

This might come as a surprise to myopic urbanists, but people work in the suburbs, too.

Isuch hypocrisy when Crestwood residents prescribe more height and density for DC neighborhoods ... other than Crestwood.
