Window Treatments Sticker Shock!

Buying from a main stream store will give you a better feel for what’s in right now and future. Doing all custom is likely to looked dated tomorrow. You are being scammed.

It’s just silly to say there’s an “in” for houses. We’re in a global community now with many different fashions and there is always a snob a level up. You can make your house look like AD but if you do it to be “in,” someone will just arrive and casually mention how much they love Cabana and there you will be again. Interior design should be an expression of personal style in conversation with place and architecture. The best houses have little to do with “fashion.”

Yes. 8 x 10 rugs are rarely the correct size. They are typically cheap fabrics and print. They are for people who don’t know any better. They aren’t nice. People who decorate their homes well have Schumacher drapes or Roman shades and custom rugs from a company like fiberworks or stark.

I think you need a break my love. Some you time.

I mean I love me some outrageously expensive Schumacher drapes but hopefully I don’t love them for the sake of putting other people down. That’s not fair to the Schumacher drapes! They should be in a joyful home!

God this poster reminds me of a video that is out there somewhere of Lance Armstrong walking around his house and talking about his expensive contemporary art. It was like he was holding them prisoner. You can have all that and still be terrible.

Maybe there are some issues with functioning outside your lane here? I don’t work anywhere near the interior design world and I know how to order curtains.

Sure, but the options are limited and you have to first order samples to see the real color and texture. I think someone spending 47k on window treatments probably also doesn't buy their kitchen cabinets at Home Depot and doenst shop online at wayfair for their rugs.

Some people are wealthy and that's OK.

Yeah, but wealthy people don't complain about overpriced stuff.

OP is not wealthy.

DP. That’s a funny comment. Some of the wealthiest people I know are also fairly frugal. They certainly *do* complain about overpriced stuff.

There's an interior design blog that I like, and she did a few features on window treatments and the how-tos. Once you get past the ads, there's quite a few useful tips.

Here's a full list of her blog posts on window treatments. Even if the look is not your style, there's lots of useful info.

Not so much the shutters at 12k because we needed quite a few but the custom drapes! I met the seamstress from the company at the design center to choose fabrics and holy guacamole the prices per yd with the cheapest at $75 to 100s. I wanted embroidered tape trim but at $100 a yd I said no thanks. Fyi all made in China and India! Which you know damn well they paid $5 a yard. She even tried selling me $250 finials! Ha. I tried finding a seamstress who worked out of her home to make my drapes using my own fabric but with 13’ curtain lengths I had no luck. So I bit the bullet with two rooms custom at 7k. But I did find 10’ silk drapes at Neiman Marcus & did custom hardware for dining rm which ran about 2k. Saved about 1k. My biggest score was taking a chance & ordering 12’ velvet drapes on amazon for 2 bedrooms with 3 week lead time delivered from abroad! Wow They are gorgeous. Heavy thick, soft, lined, pinch pleated with perfect stitching too. I added tassel trim with double sided fabric tape, tassel tie backs, found 8’ acrylic rods on Amazon, had my handyman hang them and absolutely gorgeous! About $1100 total for both rooms. Best part. When my custom drapery lady saw them she immediately thought I had another company do them and before she started attitude, I told her. She was shocked-to say the least.

Please post the Amazon link!

Here ya go! I needed the 12’ length. They are gorgeous, heavy lined velvet. I added tassel trim and tie backs. Delivery was super fast too.

Highly paid professional here. I slapped some redi-shades on the little f*cker and moved on with my life. Consider it.
