Why is kate Middleton considered “classy” and Meghan Markle is not?

It's for charity. She doesn't need any profit these days.

+1 That line of clothes will have the Sussex Foundation set for years.

They're following the path of the Prince Of Wales who set up the Prince's Trust and things like his own line of organic food back when in the 1990s.

Made his foundation, patronages, and his lands a lot of money too.

He sells everything from wine to soup.

Sussex Royal isn't getting the proceeds. The set up is for every set sold by the retailers for profit, they will donate one-for-one to a charity, presumably directly, like SmartWorks, etc.

"The collection which will launch later this year, and will sell on a one-for-one basis. 'For each item purchased by a customer, one is donated to charity," Meghan revealed during her takeover of the magazine. "Not only does this allow us to be part of each other's story, it reminds us we are in it together.'."

Meghan is both the designer and the founder of the capsule collection.

It's actually an ingenious three-way split.

One-to-one = for every outfit sold, Smart Works (her patronage) will get a duplicate outfit to give to their clients.

Sale costs and profit = if the outfit is sold for $100.00 (to make this easy) - the retailer gets a 40% cut of profits, so they keep $40 plus taxes.

That leaves 60% left to go back to the manufacturer (and designer = Meghan) as profit. That 60% will probably be split 30/20/10. 30% or $30 to cover the production cost of the outfit and a double for Smart Works. 20% to the Sussex Foundation. 10% to administrative/transportation costs.

It's how most clothing lines work and a smart way to do business as long as the interest from public buyer's is there.

I doubt that Meghan or SR will get any of the gross or net, but since SR financials are disclosed every year, we will see.

This makes no sense. Profit does not equal revenue. And I don't think profit margins are 60-70% on clothing, try more like 10-20%. And where is Misha Nonoo in this example? M&S, Misha, Jigsaw, and perhaps Meghan will be sharing whatever is left. The VAT rate alone is 20%. I'm not following the argument that Meghan is going to be making bank on this venture if that's the point.

I don't think Meghan will be making bank. I think this is going to be very successful venture from the start which will give her Sussex foundation dividends for decades to come.

Even if its 'only $500,000 in income from the capsule collection in a year (and keep in mind her cookbook sold 130,000 copies in a single year), that's half a million she doesn't have to work for.

It'll just come to the foundation's coffers to build bigger and better things every year following.

Oops, that's 130,000 copies of the cookbook sold in HALF a year.

its clear none of you are accountants. Suffice it to say it’s extremely unlikely Meghan or anyone else will make any money from this venture. At least in America a non- profit is exactly that- an enterprise that cannot make a profit. Any revenue received in excess of expenses/ costs gets funneled back to the non- profit.

This is all assuming the Sussex foundation or whatever it’s called is a non profit.

K and W flying commercial this week is the epitome of not classy, so I think this week MM wins on that measure.

Well, it was all a stunt since the airline flew 3 empty planes to make this happen.

I still wonder what is going on with Meghan's relationship with her father. It's really strange that even before he posed for pictures and spoke to the media that Harry had never met him in person. Meghan and Harry met in the summer of 2016, became engaged in November 2017, and the photo "scandal" wasn't until May 2018. All that time, Harry did not meet (and has never met) Meghan's dad.
To me that says a lot about her.

Wow. That's even tackier.

Yes, go make three jets fly empty so you can get your commercial flight photo shoot and throw your brother/SIL under the bus, all in a desperate attempt to protect your likely pedophile uncle. It's disgusting.

Why the British tolerate and pay for this nonsense is beyond me.

There's no reasonable explanation.
