Ocasio-Cortez makes $174,000 annually with her congressional salary and has used the funds to move into the posh Navy Yard neighborhood in Washington D.C. that, ironically, is also a favorite of President Donald Trump's staffers.

My mother was a socialist when I was growing up and lived at home. She still is. She painted a picture of socialism that sounded good. I definitely was a lefty in college. Extreme.

But stuff like this is why I cannot take socialism seriously. The minute AOC gets to DC, it’s luxury for her.

If she truly was a working class champion, she’d live somewhere less expensive and donate or help the poor and downtrodden.

That’s supposed to be the difference between people like her and the rich baddies. But it seems all people want is to feed voters a line, get in office, and then, good times.

Well said.

Good thing AOC is NOT a socialist, but a Democratic Socialist!

You idiots really think she should “do the English basement thing”?!?!?!?
There are full on psychos out there. Some dude shows up at Comet ping pong locked and loaded and you all think AOC should just live the typical 20 something DC experience?
She fully needs to have a secure building, and possibly a driver.
Fox News is obsessed with her. How long before some nut job tries something?
She need to legitimately be concerned for her safely.

Funny. I did the “English Basement thing” and my rent was not less than what AOC was paying for her apartment. Again, lots of people weighing in who clearly have NO idea what living in DC as a middle class person is like.

A DMV nut job was just arrested with his arsenal for plotting to kill her.

He was planning to kill a whole bunch of people - many in congress as well as Don Lemon, Morning Joe, Beto, and Chris Hayes.

Please stop acting like she was the only target.

You’re so right. Makes it so much better.

Do you weirdos ever step back and process the stupid sh*t you spew?

What are you talking about?

You make it seem like she was being targeted and no one else. What was the point to bringing this to the thread?

Why not list that many democrats and stars were listed along with AOC

Because a threat against her life was revealed today. And people on here are arguing that she shouldn’t take staying alive into account in choosing her housing. She is a prominent RWNJ target. If you doubted that, there’s a kill list to prove it.

FFS, you Trumptwats have even worse critical thinking skills than I had thought. And my opinion of you was very low to begin with.

Good thing your opinion doesnt matter.

Let me guess.. she is going to live behind fortified walls and get men with guns to protect her.

I don’t know. What would you do if there were serious threats against your life? I’d be scared. And yes, make decisions like where to live based in part on staying alive. Wouldn’t you?

The issue is not the position she takes. It's that she chooses things for herself that she denies others or rails against others for supporting. Of course she should protect herself and ensure that her home is secure. Why then is it an issue when others want to do that for our country.

I hope that she and all members of Congress stay safe. The division in this country is getting scary.

What's the difference between her and your president?

I love how people keep mentioning $$$$ Trump has spent --- HELLOOOO ---- He's RICH-- very very very. He pays for ALL trips to Mar-a-Lago on his own dime except for maybe some of the secret service people he has to take with him (which is required by every POTUS). He plays golf for FREE, because he OWNS the courses. Obummer made the US citizens pay for his every weekend golf game as well as all of the FREQUENT Obummer family's luxury trips. Did Obummer donate HIS yearly salary instead of accepting it every year??? Hummm - No.

As someone noted upthread, new buildings have all kinds of rent incentives. I've moved into new buildings, not for the amenities but because of the cheap(er) rent.

So you have rented apartments in DC with the amenities available at AOC’s building?

Specifically yes or no? Her building has details listed of said amenities and they seem more posh than most.

Yes, but Navy Yard is not a particularly posh place, so even if the building is new, it's not like she's living right on the Hiil or in Georgetown so her rent will be lower. And yes, newer buildings with more vacancies often have very good rent incentives (we got 3 months rent free in an expensive building so our annual rent was affordable even though our "sticker price" rent was high.

Ok understood but did your building have her amenities? Her specific building?

“These include: two private massage rooms with state-of-the-art hydrotherapy beds; men’s and women’s saunas; a full-scale demonstration kitchen with wood-fired pizza oven; a 25-meter indoor lap pool; a rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views of the Capitol; a Peloton cycling studio with over a dozen bikes; and a fireside lounge featuring a Steinway & Sons player piano.

Your building had these amenities? Many posters here are claiming they lived like AOC but won’t answer this specific question, so I suspect the answer is no.

PP here. No. Does that mean something?

I wouldn't pick Navy Yard, but I don't work at the Congress building. Would you?

So you admit her building is better than most in Navy Yard? Or are we stil pretending that’s not true.

And there are less posh buildings in Navy Yard that are close to her work but don’t have a Peloton studio on premises?

Probably not but maybe the people of Queens will see the consequences of electing such a loon.

Which amenity in particular are people so upset about? It can’t be the pool, those are common to many apartments all over the country. The fact that she can pa for a massage at her home? Anyone can do that. Maybe it’s the golf. That’s something many people would never use. I think it’s just a bunch of Republicans that are jealous of her.

LOL! So Trump MAKES money b/c secret service have to stay at his hotel. We are paying a ton b/c he and his family vacation ALL the time. All he does is play golf. We have to pay for secret service and his trips to the locations. Did you bump your head? Wow, the cost of a golf game compared to having to fly him there (we pay for that dummy) and the secret service and his time being lazy as hell.

New York has been offering large tax incentives for businesses for years now.

Dems are moving too far left.

The same folks who funded Trump and Breitbart are so afraid of AOC that they are renting billboards in Times Square. Amazing.
