just to echo prior poster

The chances of you getting into an elite top 20 college out of TJ are between 5-10% which is the actual acceptance rate of the greater applicant pool to these schools overall, draw whatever conclusions you want to my original point still stands

You must be blind.

And doesn't understand percentages.

And envious of TJ having one of the best if not the best college admissions in the country.

Have you been paying attention? Not supported by the facts.

Look for your self:

College/University Overall acceptance rate 2016/2017 TJ acceptance rate 2017

Amherst 13.7% (2016) 50%
Brown 8.3% 11.7%
Columbia 5.8% 10%
Cornell 12.5% 15.9%
Dartmouth 10.4% 12.1%
Duke 9% 13.4%
Georgetown 15% 36.8%
Harvard 5.2% 6.6%
Johns Hopkins 11.8% 13.1%
MIT 7.1% 10.7%
Princeton 6.1% 8.4%
Stanford 4.65% 5.7%
Chicago 7.9% (2016) 17.9%
Penn 9.15% 12.2%
Yale 6.9% 11.1%
UC Berkeley 17.8% 35%
Michigan 26% 49.2%

lol thanks for making my point again again and again

besides a couple outliers (mainly on the lower top 25 programs) the rates are within 1-3% points. that's nothing to crow about

Provided with facts, you refuse to see facts and now wants some wiggle room!

Difference is your average high school would be lucky to send 2-4% to top ~30 colleges and TJ sends 70-80% to top schools. You should take a look at some of the other FCPS high school college acceptances.

Where is the 70-80% coming from? I count these colleges as the elites for schools with at least one student admitted. I'm getting 17% enrolling at an elite, which is impressive but not that different from other top public schools.

Amherst (6 applied, 3 accepted, 1 enrolled)
Brown (68 applied, 8 accepted, 3 enrolled)
CalTech (26 applied, 4 accepted, 1 enrolled)
UChicago (67 applied, 12 accepted, 6 enrolled)
Columbia (90 applied, 9 accepted, 4 enrolled)
Cornell (157 applied, 25 accepted, 13 enrolled)
Dartmouth (41 applied, 5 accepted, 1 enrolled)
Duke (97 applied, 13 accepted, 7 enrolled)
Harvard (91 applied, 6 accepted, 4 enrolled)
Harvey Mudd (14 applied, 4 admitted, 2 enrolled)
Johns Hopkins (61 applied, 8 accepted, 3 enrolled)
MIT (93 applied, 10 accepted, 8 enrolled)
UPenn (122 applied, 15 accepted, 6 enrolled)

Stanford (121 applied, 7 accepted, 5 enrolled)
WashU (50 applied, 8 accepted, 4 enrolled)

Probably both. We don't have this year's accepted/admitted numbers, but generally more than 300 kids apply and about 2/3 get in.

My son is considering attending TJ and we'd be looking at attending an instate college after that. Does attending TJ help/hurt his chances to get into UVA for ex? And is it fact that 2/3 of TJ applicants get accepted to UVA?

Why so many Brown? I thought it was a crazy lefty college where everyone smokes weed all day with layabout trustfunders...

So you mean to tell us your midwest public sends over 50 kids to the ivies, Stanford, MIT every year? Your school is either a complete outlier when it comes to publics or this is just bs

You realize that Brown had the second-lowest number of applications amongst all the ivies, Stanford, MIT? Only Dartmouth had fewer apps.

You can see college application data (for schools with >10 acceptances) for class of 2016 here
https://fcps.tjhsst.edu/coursemgmt/media/300/resource/TJ%20Profile%202016-17%20online.pdf

About the top half of class at TJ can get into UVA. W&M really loves TJ students and will take >90% who apply.

On paper, the achievement level of TJ students is impressive even compared to top private schools and other magnet schools. A 65% acceptance rate into UVA in today's hyper competitive admissions world?!
