you do know that you have little to no chance of getting into DCI, right? It is a feeder for the charter members' students and there will be only a few number of slots available for lottery by outsiders. hope you get lucky but i wouldn't bet on getting in..... |
No one is making assumptions about what you mean - it is a direct quote from your post "Sela folks need to not come into every.DCI.thread. talking about being part of DCI. It's totally understandable Sela wants to join, understandable DCI wants lots of languages. Can we be done then? But check the threads, it is ALWAYS a Sela booster who starts the conversation about Sela in DCI." Those are your actual words. Yet, here I am: not "Sela folks" not "wanting to join" not a "Sela booster." Your message is essentially "I don't want to read about Sela, so stop writing about Sela." I'd like to propose the more logical alternative "If you don't want to read about Sela, then stop reading about Sela." |
Hey guys---
isn't this thread supposed to be about DCI? maybe you two could carry the fight on to another thread? |
+1 |
Gosh, I totally agree. I wish those who wish to discuss Selah start a new thread. As far as I know, at this time DCI consists of Lamb, Stokes, YY, MV and DC Bilingual. And, it will be interesting to see how they pull this off with all the different personalities running the vairous schools. Which administrator or director from the five schools will take the lead. Who will do all the hiring. Who will shape DCI. Will there be more male teachers at DCI. Those are some of the things I want to know about DCI. If I want to know about Selah, I will go to a Selah thread. |
So, true. Most of your children will not get in, will flunk out, or go private. It is DC, after all. |
There will probalby be less spaces now that DC Bilingual will be added. |
I understand part of the reason for even forming DCI is to have a great language school but also have the enrollment to counteract attrition. What is the vision for how students in upper grades will be added? Do I remember correctly that there won't be testing in re: language proficiency, so what happens if you join as a high school student?
And if they don't let anyone in in high school, what happens if most students go to other schools (don't ask which one, I am asking hypothetically) and there aren't the numbers for high school classes? |
Or, what happens at the upper grades if they keep adding schools and everyone stays? Do we end up with a lottery to see if our kids get to stay? |
This X 1,000! |

- Committees have already been formed and are working on financing, facilities, curriculum, etc. - A management team will be hired to run DCI. The individual schools would each have one trustee on the board, in addition to other board members. - DCI would be in temporary space to start. Eventually the plan is for DCI to move to Walter Reed and utilize the space that Yu Ying was awarded. |
Thanks pp! One small correction: Walter Reed space was awarded to YY and to LAMB. |
My DS is currently at a Spanish private, doubt he'd flunk out. There sure is a lot of assuming going on in this thread. The school hasn't even opened yet and you're assuming the school will have zero attrition and be filled with geniuses that are perfect in their respective languages. Like I said, I'm just observing at this point. |
Correct, but DCI will be held in the space that YY was awarded. LAMB's space will stay only LAMB, used for PK/elementary. LAMB's space at Walter Reed will be not be used for DCI. |
