No, the comment was referring to those choosing to return. Read the two preceding comments. No one is faulting families for the 2025 tragedy. They are faulting the lax Kerr Co safety precautions for an area known to flood and the minimal safety plans and means of communication by Camp Mystic's leaders.

Where are those families asking for sympathy from you?

The posters arguing in favor of the camp opening.

So - not the families of returning campers? People saying don't judge have you flipping out?

Who is flipping out? Most of us (other than you) are in agreement that the camp should never reopen and those wanting to return are nuts.

That's fine but getting hysterical about it calling people names and saying (erroneously) that someone is demanding your sympathy seems like an overreaction.

You exaggerate and misinterpret, then run with your feelings. No one said 'demanding sympathy," and no one is hysterical.

Again, nobody asked for your sympathy. More kids in your own zip code will die in backyard pools or from not wearing a bike helmet this summer than some random girls in a freak 100 yr flood. Yet not much concern for the very real threat closer to home.

Once again, you are fabricating nonsense. I have concerns for any child who endures suffering, child abuse, death, etc. The flood was a rare exception, but the lack of preparedness reflects incompetence. Why do you think schools have warning sirens, fire drills, regular inspections by the fire dept, ways to communicate between central office personnel and teachers/staff, tornado drills, etc. It's called preparedness for possible disasters.

Uh huh. And you have asked your child's camp to see a copy of their safety procedures, yes? Have you asked your kids' school for the same? Do you know what your local hospital's active shooter protocol is? Do you ask to see the health certificate for every place you dine at? Want me to keep going?

Again, and we’ve told you this several times: This is an anonymous DC-based discussion forum. We discuss what we like here, particularly on the Off-Topic forum. You don’t get to decide what we discuss, just because you don’t like it. If we want to discuss our thoughts about the parents trying to send their kids back to Camp Mystic or the camp leaders, we will. And we will do it any manner we please.

And we are free to tell you that you’re a judgmental busybody who should leave these poor families alone FFS.

We aren't bothering them. It's an internet forum. No one is forcing you to read our posts. It was and is a a national story with ongoing updates that we will continue to discuss.

And we will continue to call out your grotesque comments trashing the families.

Anyone that would trust the Eastlands with the care of their child, knowing what they know now, is severely lacking in critical thinking skills.

You don’t know anything about them.

Stop acting like you know everything about everything; you don’t. MYOFB.

We've read their inadequate safety plans. We saw their inability to answer basic safety questions in court. We know they had internal family conflicts and lawsuits over money. We know that in recent documents they still don't want to list camp structures as being in a floodplain. We know they were asleep when warnings went out instead of staying up and monitoring their campers' safety. We know they had no sirens or other way to communicate with their counselors. You can't tell us what to think.

You have spent an awful lot of time looking into a camp you'd never send your child to. Maybe ask yourself why you're so rabid about this? It's weird.

I should read safety plans about a camp my kids don’t go to? What a strange hobby.

Welcome to DCUM. Where you have the most valid opinion on everything ever even though you have no practical experience or education on those topics. Never been back country skiing? Don't worry about it, come post your judgment! Do your kids attend public school and you've never set foot on a private school campus? No problem, you can still post your thoughts about STA!

The tragedy of Camp Mystic and the hubris of the Eastland family is national news. As a parent who has sent my kids to sleepaway camp, I have discussed Camp Mystic with friends and read about it on this site. We are truly astounded by the greed of the Eastlands and their push to reopen the camp without basic safety plans in place. Imagine being a parent who sends their daughter back to this place?

Imagine being the parent of a child who almost died and who possibly watched their friends die last summer. You can't even begin to. Yet you pass your judgment on people whose shoes you've never walked in. I'm not the PP but I am annoyed by people like you who think you're so holier than thou and smarter than these dumb Texans and so much better than these parents. You can do whatever you want. Don't send your kids to Camp Mystic. No one is asking you to. But being a judgmental Janice isn't a good look.

You know they don’t know you from a hole in the wall or care about what you think, right?

You seem to care a lot about what other people think and are trying to control the opinions and comments of posters you don't know. FWIW, I have a lot of family member and friends in Texas and don't care what you think about our opinions of what occurred at Camp Mystic.

“Control the opinions” ha it seems like you can’t handle a conversation. People in Texas aren’t sweating this nearly as much as you.

You are finally getting it! Those families “not sweating” the glaring deficiencies of this camp are exactly what we are here discussing. I’m glad we could clear that up.

You can discuss and some of us can recognize it has nothing to do with anything. It effects those families and nobody else.

If it has nothing to do with anything, what are you doing here? I'd make other summer arrangements if I were you - I don't think your current plan is going to be available.

Oh, no need to worry about my kids on top of these 800 you are obseseed with. We go to a camp in a completely unrelated state. What happens or doesn’t happen at Mystic has absolutely no bearing on anyone else. Is your niece going to this camp?

Lady, if you think anyone on this thread would allow someone they love to attend this camp, you are dumber than I thought.

You control what your niece does? That's weird. Are you in control of whether she wears a helmet when she bikes? How many micro-plastics she ingests on a regular basis?

You are the one who is trying to stop the conversation.

In what way? I think someone is not being honest about their overly emotional investment in this. Are they a lawyer? Family member? It comes across as dishonest and misleading.

I notice you are not commenting on, or refuting any of the news stories about the appalling deficiencies in the camp's current application for licensure. Nor have you commented on the fact that had the low lying cabins simply been permitted to evacuate, they would all be alive today.

Why does anyone need to? The appropriate department gets paid to do that and they are doing their job. Freaking out on here makes no difference.

We are just discussing. You are trying to curb the discussion, for reasons you have not disclosed.

Curb the discussion? It’s one person serially posting.

No, there are multiple. You can check with the site admins. I'm not the only person responding to you.

There’s more than one person who thinks you’re nuts.

This comment referred families asking for sympathy - so the families from last summer:
“And then those families ask for sympathy over foolhardy risk taking decisions.”

What is this we crap? Why are you reading their safety plans?

Anyone who reads Texas news. Maybe you should.

I should read safety plans about a camp my kids don’t go to? What a strange hobby.

TBH - the whole thing is fascinating. The way people think and behave down there. You coming here policing a message board in another city. It’s like an anthropology case study

PP probably doesn't even have kids. Just a weirdo obsessed with other people's kids.

Yeah, that's it. That's also why its all over the news nationally, including the NY Times. Just childless weirdos are reading about Camp Mystic and Kerr County.

Reading in passing is one thing, obsessing over their safety plans when you don't even have kids is another.

LOL you still don't get it. No one is obsessing over the camp's safety plans. We are all aghast that people like you and the Eastlands support reopening the camp after their criminally negligent behavior. Clearly you don't even think anyone needs to worry about the non-existent safety plans. If the Eastlands had evacuation and safety plans to begin with, we wouldn't be here today because these girls would still be alive, wouldn't they?

Yes, there are posters on this thread who are obsessing over the safety plans (and other details). Those comments are here for us all to see. These posters don't have kids at this camp. In fact, it seems like they don't have kids at all.

"People like me"? When did I say I support the reopening?

My biggest issue with this thread are the comments trashing the families. Really, really disgusting. MYOFB.

Are you an Eastland?

My post referred to schools, where these precautions for children's safety are in place.

This is all moot. After this week's legislative hearings this place in its current form is done.

+1 I think you're correct.
