Someone’s mad their child got rejected….. what’s with all this Potomac hate? I mean it’s not a Sidwell but it’s definitely a DMV top 5. Jesus.

DP
There's no Potomac hate, but Potomac parents are insecure and have chips on their shoulders. They always try to sneak in the school where it doesn't belong. They try too hard to make Potomac happen.

Geniune question. What about Potomac is so bad that they don’t deserve recognition as a good priv school?

DCUM doesn't like the suburbs. IRL, both Potomac and Holton are considered among the best of the DC-area privates, but this board is skewed.

IRL? Stop gaming and go to bed, little troll. School tomorrow.

DP. You are weird and miserable. Did someone at Potomac do something to you, for goodness sakes why do you hate it so much? Just know, the kids there are thriving regardless of whatever you have to say. I'm assuming you fit one of the following three scenarios. You were a visi girl in the 90's and your Potomac bf broke up with you; still bitter after all this time. Or wait, you went to Gonzaga and a Potomac guy stole your gf. Or simply your child got rejected and zaga was your last hope. Get a life.

For those who also follow the college forum, don't you think Potomac parents are similar to Northeastern parents?

No, and I have no skin in this discussion.

For openers, NEU has N “campuses” scattered around, apparently now including one in some Rosslyn office building locally (saw a sign on a bldg yesterday), while Potomac only has one location.

From a DCUM perspective, Potomac’s biggest problems are that its US is relatively new (early 1990s, I think) and it is on the Virginia side of the river. DCUM does not like anything on the Virginia side, even though Alex/Arl/Fairfax are just as blue as DC these days.

That's not what I am talking about. I am talking about the over the top emotion of parents defending this school, which is very similar to the mood of the parents who chime in to defend NEU on the college forum.

Laugh if you want but Good Counsel has the happiest, most well rounded kids and a long wait list.

GC has a long wait list because it's an affordable option, is large, and has lower admissions standards than most prep schools.

The waitlist for GC is long because it's a backup for people who don't want their kids to go to their lower-ranked MCPS zoned school (eg, anything besides W schools, BCC, QO, etc) and their kid didn't get into a magnet program, Catholic kids who didn't make the cut for Prep/Visi/etc, and Catholic kids who wanted co-ed and either didn't get in or didn't want to commute to SJC.

Class sizes are huge and it doesn't offer anything more than a high-SES public school has. Outside of devout Catholics, no one's paying for GC and commuting out to Olney if they live in bounds for Whitman, Churchill, etc. Same can't be said for Sidwell, GDS, STA/NCS, Prep, etc.

It's not a bad school by any stretch of the imagination, but it's nowhere near T15 status.

This is what GC *used* to be but now it is an intentionally sought after school.any Catholic kids now want the Catholic school experience and the perks of a big public high school experience which you get at GC.

Also GC does NOT have large class sizes - that’s one of its main selling points - a big high school with smaller classes - usually 15 or less.

So I know you thought you were schooling everyone but your perception is dated. There are many Catholic K-8 schools sending large swaths of their top students to GC. And I do not have a kid there. I applied for my child, who got in but we ultimately chose a more competitive school but there was just a hair of a difference between the school we ultimately chose and GC once we outlined the pluses of each one. Your kid can go to GC and be challenged and very happy socially.

This has to do with traffic/commute (in particular navigating the American Legion and Chain Bridges), not politics.

Well it’s true. My DD shadowed there and it was especially important to us because she has ADHD. And I am not talking about the Ryken program - this is for their regular classes.

Clearly an anti-Catholic anti-female thing going on here.

Madeira MIGHT be too high, but is T10 worthy ( probably 10th).

Swap Prep with Landon

Please, please stop putting Bullis, SSAS and Potomac on the list. They just don't make the cut. And if Gonzaga is on there, Visitation should also be on there as it is even more competitive than it's brother school.

If Sidwell isn’t #1, then the list is incorrect. I’m not a Sidwell parent (my children attend Catholic independents), but I live in DC and I’m very familiar with how these institutions are perceived.
