Have to admit it; the whole Sidwell and GDS really are by far the best privates, using college matriculation as the gauge.

Best at selecting kids who have a shot at top colleges, perhaps. Kudos to their admissions departments. But are you suggesting those same kids would have gone to a different college had they chosen a different high school? Most would seriously doubt that.

Potomac also did very well.

I think the best is actually STA. They have a class of about 75 and get in about 20 kids to the Ivies each year plus up to 10 to Chicago.
There are only about 5 kids each year who attend schools ranked above 50.

If it’s not on Instagram, or some other public platform that doesn’t aggregate results over a period of years, I don’t believe you. Put up or shut up.
What is STA hiding?!?

It’s for those who need to know but I will let you in on a bit of last year. 35 to top 10 schools, 33 to top 30 and 6 to the likes of the University of Oregon, JMU etc. You don’t deserve to know more so be happy with the glimpse you were given.

I have daughters so I don’t care how STA students do. However, you’re on this thread pulling numbers out your backside with zero proof. Provide receipts or scurry along. Your word is worthless.

GDS is the only private showing an early admit to University of Chicago

They have 36 posts. Sidwell only posted 18 but there are more kids who haven’t posted and were accepted to Ivies and UChicago.

At most 4 unhooked Ivy. Is that good right now? I guess it is.

It's still too early to make this statement. Only those that continue to insist there is a "big 3" will say this.

For example, looking at 2023 results, GDS and Sidwell did similar to Maret for example. Not a parent of either but it's just silly to attribute results solely to the school and not self selection with deeply connected and privileged kids.

No NCS?

Do any schools share where their students matriculate? It seems to me that it is the value-added that makes a difference in terms of judging a school's effectiveness. If a school takes only the most competitive kids...guess what? Are any schools overperforming? That's what I want to know as a parent of a rising 8th grade kid.

They don't share until spring. The top girls have done really well this year. What will be interesting is how the girls ranked below the top 20% in the class do. In recent years it's been spotty because NCS grading is harsh. Once you get below a 3.7 (which is a large portion of the class) admissions have been pretty dicey for many girls. NCS also does not have the sports recruits of Holton or Stone Ridge. Those schools will likely both end up with 10 recruits (or more) while NCS currently has 1 and to my knowledge, no others on the horizon for 2024.

Amazing that the top dmv publics are doing just as well if not better than most privates too!

Just stop.

I’m a private school parent and do not find it threatening when children at public schools or other private schools do well.

The insistence that public schools are just a good is laughable. Yes, they might be. Why come to the private schools forum to say it over and over?

The idea that people are seeking out the private school forum specifically to post about public schools is laughable. Let me enlighten you. Jeff covered this thread in his daily summary. And many of us scroll through recent posts or hottest topics and land here as a result.

Usually can be found in class profiles or school Fall issue magazines. Some are more transparent than others. Just google "XYZ class of 2023 class profile" and something should come up.

Whatever,

I took a look at Whitman and Churchill.

These are publics that take everyone.

And they did very fine. A couple of thousand random kids. And they are placing very well.

Uchicago came out thirty seconds ago. Not everyone/every school immediately posts results on insta. The people making observations about how “well” schools are doing based on those posts need to chill.

These posts on insta are the students’ commits (athletic or otherwise as they’ve officially heard from the college/university via ED or EA admissions). In other words, this is the real time matriculation list for the kids who choose to share that info with whatever kid is running their school insta account (my DS is on the fence about doing that because his good friends have not been as fortunate thus far in the EA/ED round).
