Dog didn't maul the child. Let's wait for more details. The 2 year old could have jumped on the dog. (Or not?l)

You think they sent a toddler via airlift for… a simple bite? I don’t think you grasp the kinds of injuries pit bulls cause.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/family-dog-mauls-8-day-145547042.html

According to pit bull logic, said eight day old infant either leapt onto the dog or the dog was trained to maul helpless babes.

Also lookout for the pit bull people to claim said dog, which will probably turn out to be a pit bull, is a Dalmatian or a lab or a Cairn terrier. And then we’ll see the picture of the cursed thing and it will be an obviously pit bull type dog.

Fortunately no one hurt here. Two pits trying to get at a cat hiding under the hood of a car. Imagine a child or even an adult being the target of their sweetness. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13256135/footage-video-pit-bulls-dogs-try-attack-cat-car.html

Pp here. Why not make rules for all dogs? Then you're not picking on pit bulls.

These dogs are so obviously not a cute pet, and quite obviously don't belong being bred or owned anymore. I don't see how people don't see this. there are thousands of other breeds to choose from. It's like allowing people to own lions.

The point is you're ban specific breed leguslation would not have prevented the death of babies killed by dogs that were not pit bulls.

We need parents to stop leaving their babies alone with dogs.

More than one thing can be true.

The thing about pits though is they have even attacked babies who were not left alone with them. The one in Memphis ate the baby while the mother was wearing him.

If bans worked, you could ban one cluster of breeds (pit bulls) that is responsible for 72% of dog-related human fatalities, then you could ignore all of the breeds that are only responsible for 1% or less of fatalities, and you’d still drastically reduce fatalities.

The problems with breed bans is that so many dogs are mixed breed, and there will always be people who will not comply with bans — and they tend to be the people who are the least responsible breeders and owners to begin with.

I think there need to be stricter criminal penalties for people who let their dogs off leash or escape their property. It seems like in so many of these maulings, there had been repeated calls to animal control about the dogs roaming the neighborhood or jumping the fence or whatever. Take away their dogs if they can’t keep them contained. And impose strict liability. If your dog kills someone unprovoked, you spend 5 years in prison and pay a huge fine.

As a dog owner I would be fine with this because I only adopt dogs with good temperaments who do not have the physicality to inflict significant damage, and I also keep them leashed or on my property at all times.

Add in some limits on how many dogs you can own. A lot of attacks seem to happen in packs. Nobody needs more than 2 dogs in a suburban or urban area. If you want 3 + dogs go live far away from people. If you get caught with more than 2 dogs, you have all of them taken away.

If it took six weeks for this news to be made public, how many other similarly serious but non-fatal attacks aren’t being reported to the public at all?

Just yesterday in NE a pit bull attacked a woman and two children, sending all three to the hospital. https://wjla.com/news/local/dog-shot-killed-after-woman-children-injured-in-northeast-dc-dog-attack-animals-investigation-49th-street-ne I have yet to hear of a Dalmatian attacking multiple people since, you know, “any dog can bite.”

JFC with the owner making up excuses for his dog. How are morons like this existing among us? And the dog was returned to him?! That thing needs to be put down.

FATALITY:
Portsmouth woman mauled to death by her three pit bulls on April 12, 2024. https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/04/12/woman-dies-after-being-mauled-by-3-dogs-in-portsmouth-police-say/

I hope a few more people are beginning to recognize that pit bulls aren’t poor misunderstood creatures. They were bred for blood sport, and that’s what they still are.

Reading is FUNdamental, PP. They weren't her dogs. Those 3 letters completely change the story. Fearmongering, much?

The dogs were known to animal control, with a bit history, which seems like a structural fail/human error to me. The article also suggests the decedent was somewhere other than her own home, which might've explained the attack: "...we urge residents to refrain from trespassing or attempting to interact with animals without explicit permission from their owners, as this can help prevent future incidents of this nature."

Is she less dead? Do you hear pit bull advocates arguing for putting down problem pit bulls?

She was visiting the house that owns the dogs. You don’t hear of dachshunds mauling visitors to death.
