Not sure siding with the pro defund the police and pro housing vouchers ANC and CM is a winning strategy in light of current conditions |
Neither of those have anything to do with a historic district. Luckily it is easy to side with private property rights and mindless regulations on getting a new window or door or exterior light or tons of other things. It unites everyone of all persuasions in opposition. |
I’m going to need a citation here. All of the historic districts in DC are some of the most affluent areas of the city, which means that more people want to be there than to not be there. |
The DC government needs to fund a grant program so that historic preservationists and neighborhood advocates in less advantaged parts of DC can document their history to create more landmarked properties and historic districts. |
Exactly. And we established right turn on red to cut back on pollution, too. Now cars just sit there for several minutes. Oh well. |
This is truly a baby's point of view. |
Sure…let’s take away money from fighting crime and other real problems to impose mindless regulations on DC residents least likely to afford those. Sure that will go over well. |
Never heard of a council member weighing in against a historic landmark or district. It’s really not their remit. Can someone please explain to Frumin that he could still do pickle ball in Chevy Chase DC? |
How Trumpy. You’re either woefully ignorant or deliberately making SF$! up. |
Developers wouldn’t like it so much. Less opportunity for rapacious gentrification then. |
Nah…just pointing out the obvious…but you clearly are some old f**k that just wishes nothing would change. |
Developers couldn’t care less. It actually doesn’t do much of anything to stop large scale development…just allows you to weigh in on the design of the massive building. |
A councilmember plays no role in the designation process, though if he is personally opposed then that is his right. |
The ANCs are given "great weight" but there have been other landmark and district designations with different levels of opposition or support - in other words it doesn't really matter if people are for it or not, the question is if the application has merit. |
The area proposed has very few houses built after 1980 - the ones I can think of were duplexes that came after single family older homes were torn down. |
