College and University Discussion
Let's talk about the "cultural aspects of blackness"! This will be fun! DP |
ffs. read the f’in article and pay close attention to what she says about integrating white sororities. |
Poor WEB DuBois is in for it, I guess. |
I mean, there is plenty written on HBCUs and black fraternal orgs. This is a complete straw man, as well. But let me ask you - how do you situate the Tik Tok-mediated acceleration of all-white, hyper-feminized sororities in Alabama in the context of race and gender in the US? |
I know, right? None of the Divine Nine *ever* wear OTT makeup - lashes, nails, etc. Never, I tell you! DP |
DP. I look forward to that critique of the Divine Nine, written by a white person, and published in the NYT. When will it be coming out? |
It's still possible to be progressive and think Tressie is full of shi!t. Tressie has her own issues, including body dysmorphia (she wrote a book entitled Thick, after all), and she's trying to take it out on White women. For the moment, White progressive women seem afraid to confront this from Tressie and others, but that's not going to last forever. Ignore the right wing-nut who wants you to think all progressives side with Tressie. Tressie just represents a small number of progressives. Keep believing that beauty standards need to change, but that doesn't mean we need to tell White women like you that you're worthless. |
DP. I have no issue with critique of the Greek system AS A WHOLE. But where is the criticism of black Greek organizations? It's very telling that you're defending an attack (sorry - "critique") of white sororities, but you'd be going batshit crazy if the critique was about black sororities. And you know it. We are all calling you - and this author - out on your utter hypocrisy. |
You can't even address the bolded because you know you have no rebuttal. The PP is correct. Your pithy remarks just out you as an unserious person who is too stubborn to admit how hypocritical you are. |
No. Cottom is specifically critiquing and rejecting the 'natural' progressive call for diversity and integration in Alabama sororities because the Greek system is inherently misogynistic and "why would anyone want to integrate that?" |
I'll stick to calling her Tressie. That's about how much respect she deserves after writing this garbage. DP |
DP. Do you mean the part where the author talks about the 1960s? Or where Tressie writes "And I ask, why would anyone want to integrate that?" in a conclusion that underscores the contention that, instead of discrimination, actually Black women aren't rushing, don't want to rush, these White sororities? |
Agree 100%. Well said. |
Oh honey. Cottom isn't concerned about misogyny; she's too busy ridiculing other women for their looks, hair choices, and choice to be housewives. According to you, Cottom is saying, "I don't want to integrate you because it's impossible to integrate you." Nice little Catch 22. But anybody with an ounce of honesty would call that out by asking for evidence. Which we've done throughout this thread. |
You don’t. It’s entertainment, a curiosity — nothing more, nothing less. Just like the housewives. |
