Can you see how the vicious downward spiral happens? |
It happens--not because of boundary adjustments--but because of changing demographics across the county. With 30% FARMS, you are going to have different needs. It is up to FCPS to meet those needs--not cover them up with boundary changes. |
A school like Lewis could capitalize on the success of their soccer team. Remember--to stay on a team you have to be in school and keep your grades up. Does the new grading system encourage studying? (Doubtful)
Perhaps, the school could help academics by having soccer clubs and intramural activities with it. Develop some school spirit around soccer. Play to the strengths of the kids. Capitalize on that while addressing academic weaknesses. Self-esteem does wonders on the learning environment. Spend more time on this type of thing and less on social justice and equity. Drop the grievance culture and move forward. |
Sounds to me like a West Springfield poster afraid there could be boundary changes. Or another school in a similar situation. You got yours, screw what happens to everyone else. That seems to be the general attitude in this county. |
I don’t know how you have one school with under 1700 kids next to another wealthier, renovated school with almost 2700 kids. It seems like a blatant civil rights violation. Shame on this school board. |
No. I live no where near West Springfield or Lewis. You are suggesting that high school kids from one neighborhood be moved in order to help the struggling students. And, it does not work. You are asking a neighborhood to switch schools to help the other kids--not for their own benefit. |
So many excuses all to defend the indefensible. |
No. Just common sense. Fix the problem--don't cover it up. The purpose is to help all kids. Shifting kids only covers up the problem. There are many factors that go into boundary choices. I am not familiar with Springfield and Franconia neighborhoods, but I do understand that it doesn't help to divide elementary schools into split feeders. |
Where is the discussion on the School Board of how to help the struggling communities? The only thing they talk about are FLE policies and social justice.
Here is a clue: a social justice academy is not going to help. Do you know what does help? Teaching the kids. |
Move an entire ES from WS to Lewis then. |
Why? Who gets to pick which one? |
Pick the ones that are on the same side of I95 as Lewis. Easy. |
Change the Keene Mill/Cardinal Forest boundaries to send the Keene Mill island to Cardinal Forest, move the eastern part of Cardinal Forest to Keene Mill, and then Keene Mill to Lewis. Done - no more ridiculous 800-student difference in enrollment. |
And viola…. Baseball. |
The result of sanctuary city policies |
