New Responsive Design for DCUM

Hah! I just advocated for removing it on the desktop layout. I find it tedious to see the same subject on every single reply.

I'm sorry but I have to say I do not like the new format. It's hard to see the topics, looks more chaotic and requires an intense amount of scrolling. Glad we have the option to use the the old version but wish it would just go back to how it was before.

For those that just want more text, if I zoom to about 80%, the font appears roughly the same as the old layout.

Eh everyone hates change. We will get used to it.

I agree. The old format is much easier to read. I like being able to see the forum title on the left when viewing recent topics. It makes it easier to identify the forums I’m most interested in, while still seeing posts from other forums.

Please keep the old format for us geezers who have been here for years!

I’m here to say that OG dark mode is the best. Thanks for keeping it, Jeff.

The subject is there in the desktop design. For phones, it is similar to my issue above about the date of the last post. Users have expressed a desire to see as much of a message's text as possible. On a phone, adding the subject line to each message would add at least one line to each post, allowing fewer posts to be see at once. Personally, I agree with you and would sacrifice text for the subject, but I think we are in the minority. For iPads, I may experiment with adding the subject line back in.

PP above. Glad I'm not alone, though I can see where the other users are coming from. I use a MacBook, and the subject is not there. If you have time, please consider them too, if you do go ahead and experiment with the Ipads.

I use a MacBook Pro and I didn't realize that there was much difference with a MacBook. Would you mind telling me exactly what model you have? From the "Apple Menu" choose "About this Mac". At the top is should say "MacBook" and then below it in some lighter letters a year or something that is more specific.

I think it now looks similar to old dcum style. It provides a familiarity to the classic yet with a sleeker design.

PP here. I have a MacBook Air. It says 'M1 2020' and the MacOS is 'Ventura 13.0'. Is that what you meant?

This is confusing to me. That Mac should have a viewport of 1280 pixels wide. That is basically the screen resolution of your computer. The subject line is supposed to display at a minimum width of 1200 pixels, which is obviously below 1280. If you are not seeing it, I would guess that you are not using your Mac at its native resolution and, instead, have made everything display larger or — more likely — have zoomed in your browser. Can you make sure your browser is set to display at actual size or 100%? Or simply zoom it out 1 step. Then see if the subject line shows up.

I like it! I think it's much simpler to use on an iphone.

It worked! I had zoomed in too much, but it works just fine at actual size or if I only zoom in once or twice. No more scrolling to the top for headings. Thank you so much, Jeff!

Glad it worked out. I think a lot of us have our browsers zoomed in and don't realize it.

At least short term, it could help to put the viewport in the footer so they can report it to you if they have issues? https://gomakethings.com/how-to-get-the-width-and-height-of-the-viewport-with-vanilla-js/ (of course, ideally it would update with resize)
