Does your child have a double crown (hair whorl)?

Anonymous
Just curious. DD does and genetic counselor pointed out there is a correlation to genetic issues.

Mine does, but no one has ever said anything about it. We don't have a firm diagnosis; does the double whorl suggest particular things we should look for?
Anonymous
No, we were just told that the skull forms last over the brain and the double crown can be an indication of genetic abnormalities.

Mine does. He has mild apraxia and dyspraxia. However, his older brother does, too, and he has absolutely no issues whatsoever, hit milestones early, talked early, etc.

That wasn't phrased in the best way. Older brother has the hair whorl, but no developmental issues or disorders.

Interesting. I'm one of 6 kids -- I think 4 of us have double crowns. None of us have learning issues. I have 3 nephews with double crowns as well -- and no issues.

Mine does. He's 9 and never been diagnosed with anything concrete but clearly is "different" (both I and evaluators see this). Also he's different in a way you can trace thru the males in dh's family.

Hm. Wonder if his genes are at play?

Op, what did your counselor say?

Of course you are being truthful about learning disabilities, however, many genetic variants wouldn't manifest in a learning disability.

I don't really understand what the double whorl is! And I just googled it and all the pics seem to be different so I cannot even really tell from that!

???????

DS does - and he also has two prominent cowlicks up front. Also a strong cleft chin. He is pretty young still though so not sure if he has any other "variations". He was an ICSI baby so I have always had genetics concerns in the back of my mind.

With what genetic issues is it supposed to correlate?
Anonymous
Mine does. I just thought it portended a lifetime of bad hair days. My DD has MERLD and ADHD and some other LDs. She is adopted without known birth parents, so we know nothing about her genetics.

OP here. I don't know specifically, I was just told it correlates to genetic defects. Correlation does not mean that it is a telltale sign or causation with genetic defects. When the counselor noticed the double crown it was just like she said Umm, hmm, we see this a lot in kids with genetic defects.

I also agree that it portends a lifetime of bad hair days!!!
