We are seriously considering putting an offer on a home in Sleepy Hollow, and it seems like a beautiful area...mostly out of our price range but this particular home is just within reach for us. It would be a great fit. I'm OK with the elem school and will cross the middle/high school bridges as we get closer to those ages (right now DS1 is almost 3 and DS 2 is 6 mos, and we're hoping for one more in a couple years). If you are familiar with this area, have friends that live there or live there yourself, I'd love to know your opinion. I am a childrens' photographer and work from home, so I am basically a SAHM during the day and I work mostly after the kids are in bed. I will be moving from an amazing community for families with young kids so I am used to lots of playgroups/activities/support from other moms. Is there an active moms group in Sleepy Hollow? I'd love if there were playgroups or just casual meet ups with other moms with young kids. Also, what is the playground/park situation? Currently we have several playgrounds within walking distance, which is wonderful...not sure if I'd have that in many other places though.
Also, DS will be doing public trans commute to Federal Triangle in DC. It looks like his commute would be about 30-45 mins...does this sound accurate? Thoughts on the area?? |

How will he do public transit from Sleepy Hollow? Are you planning to bus to EFC Metro or something? If so, the commute's probably more like an hour.
It's a fine area. Some people aren't too jazzed about Jeb Stuart HS, but I know kids who go there and they're doing fine. Can't speak to the Mommy club culture, sorry. |
| He'd do bus to Ballston along Rte 50 |
| I think there is an express bus on route 50 to the Rosslyn metro. Is the house within walking distance to a bus stop? |
| The 4S express bus to Rosslyn would be quicker. There is a 4S stop on Sleepy Hollow Road. |
| Yes, it is actually just south of Rte 50 and within walking distance to both Sleepy Hollow and Rte 50. |
It looks like there are two decent bus to subway options from Sleepy Hollow. Not a bad commute. |
| OK thanks! |
Anyone who can vouch for the family-friendly aspect? We may be putting in an offer this weekend and this is my only reservation...

The neighborhood has a private community pool. Check this out.

Just be careful of the headless rider

There is another community pool down the street as well: http://www.shbr.org/ It's a very nice area. It's not chock full of young families, but more of a mix of old time residents and newcomers. You may have to make more of an effort to find younger moms than in some places, but they are there. |
Thanks for the help, ladies! I think we're going to make the move tonight.

I'd be remiss if I didn't share that generations of pre-teens have called Sleepy Hollow Bath & Raquet "Bathroom Racket." |
lol! TFS. Fortunately I have a while before my boys will be pre-teens.
