Palin makes Romney, Huckabee & Giuliani look like amateurs

I don't think she could possibly have done better (unless, perhaps, she had left out the distorted tale of the bridge to nowhere). What do you all think?

You are kidding, right?

I was surprised (and disappointed) by how well she did. I really wanted her to bomb.

Sarah, you go girl! Absolutely right, this woman can deliver a speech!

She did a great job delivering a speech that McCain's staff wrote for her. Now... let's see how she does in the debates. Not so great, I am guessing. And, I can't wait for the Obama campaign to refute some of the many lies she said. UGH!

I am for Obama and I thought she did an amazing job from a political perspective. She is going to be a force to reckon with, no doubt about it. I agree with the commentators that remind us that Bush won because of small town America. We aren't small town America, and I think to some degree we (myself included) just don't get it (in terms of the politics/messages that sell there, etc.).

As a total aside: Her baby and her little girl were so sweet.

I wish I had been, but I was totally serious (as some of the other repliers apparently realized). But I hope you are right, if I understand that you think her speech was a dud. I agree with Jeff that it was a snarkfest, but I'm thought it was a very effective snarkfest. I HOPE I'm wrong.

I thought it was well done -- this is part of the problem of setting the bar so low for her as people have done since nomination was announced. There was certainly snark but given the audience, I thought was quite effective. I am an Obama supporter, and frankly, there was jabs that I laughed at.

It takes more than sarcasm and canned insults to impress me. And that goes for Giuliani, too. Since when is "community organizing" worthy of dirision and scorn? It seems that the Republicans just can't help themselves . . . they love to go mean!

About the same time, Democrats derided being a mayor or governor.

I thought Giuliani really blew the "keynote", and the disdain for community service annoyed me in both speeches.

Here is an interesting sidelight from Talking Points Media http://talkingpointsmemo.com/

Nukes
Anybody notice anything odd about this part of the transcript of the Palin speech released to the press?
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources.

I'm sure she's familiar with the word nuclear and does not need the phonetic spelling except to be sure she does not say new-cue-lar and connect herself to Bush.

Hey PP, ALL candidates have speech writers.

Her delivery was truly outstanding. I really think there are few people out there who could have been under that kind of pressure and delivered like that. I mean, she went from no one to an international scandal in 6 days then went up in front of the world and said "so what?" I know we make fun of her pageant career but I think the training it gave her speaks for itself!

The delivery was good because she is a pro news caster. But Maureen Bunyan out there with a script that has been written and practiced, and she would do as well.

FWIW, I think that they had the men look bad to make her look good.

Oh bitter liberals..all candidates have speech writers--the fact that this is an issue is laughable. She was great--don't understand why that is so hard to admit. I was a little skeptical at first but now I am coming around-I realize that I too was being sort of an elitist-bring on the small town people to shake DC up!!!
