I *really* didn't think it was that good. I'm an Obama supporter but, despite her politics, was expecting to really like her. Instead she just seemed like a GOP puppet. I was also really distracted by the baby--who would take an infant to such a crazy loud place? I actually thought Giuliani did well though. |
I would have been able to stomach Giuliani on the ticket, he presided over more people in NY than Palin did in Alaska. That said, she spoke well, but also scared me. She seems a bit nutty, the "we'll do what ever we want because we are Americans" kind of nutty. |
She was fantastic. Even her liberal media friends are saying so this morning. And I personally loved the remark about Obama being a "community organizer". After all, it was Obama's campaign that released this statement:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency..." No mention of the fact that she is a sitting governor. So, it's okay to discount her experience as a mayor and governor and not question Obama's as a community organizer? Even Obama has admitted that he wasn't sure who got more out of the experience -- the community or him. |
Imagine the liberal blather if she DIDN'T bring one of her children. |
Can someone please post a link to Palin's speech. Thanks. |
I don't think there's any question she did a fantastic job last night.
Some observations of the coverage: I heard and read several of commentators using words like "belittle" or "mocking" to describe what she said about Obama. I find this odd. Does anyone remember the Ann Richards convention speech about George Bush? This is what conventions are about! I am totally confused by the different standard being put on her (although am starting to get used to it). I guess she was supposed to get up there and give a detailed policy speech that bored people to tears and then that would have satisfied her critics? I heard many, many mentions of fact that the speech was written for her. As if most politicians write out all their speeches in longhand. As if being a talented speechgiver has zero bearing on politics. I'm not saying the speech is everything. I am still withholding judgment until I see her in interviews and the debate. But c'mon! Being able to give a speech like that is a very rare gift and has been a key factor in the success of many politicians (Bill Clinton and Obama come to mind -- both of whom are praised endlessly for this ability.) Finally, the constant references to her as the mayor. What is this about? If people referred to Obama as "Professor Obama" or such rather than Senator would this be appropriate? She was a mayor, but she is a governor and there is something subtly disrespectful (and I think sexist) about skipping the governor title. |
She's a good speaker, probably got alot of practice from her PTA meetings.
too bad she's such a liar and a bigot http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080904/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_fact_check |
Her speech was full of lies and very antagonistic. This VP choice will come back to haunt McCain b/c he will lose the support of independents with this crazy woman. |
She wasn't just great ... she was FANTASTIC! Her snarkiness was just a response to all the guff piled on her by the MSM. How she does during her debate with Biden will be the real test ... not a speech before a completely friendly audience. But she passed the first test admirably and I think the Democrats need to be very careful and not underestimate her ability to reach average, middle class americans. |
BTW so was Ahmadinejad! ![]() |
And look at what has happened with the small town America sense of judgement. Economy (lost jobs, homes), ongoing war with no end in sight, national deficit (we're broke and we keep spending), loss of diplomatic clout ... I think of the people of Iowa as small town also, but haven't they spoken earlier in the year with a vote for Obama? |
which describes her cluelessness about the world at large, lack of experience with dealing with people who don't look like the convention attendees, etc. Just another shoot 'em up kinda gal. Yee-haw. |
Funny how we "need" Republicans to shake up Washington when Republicans have been the ones in power for the last eight years. I don't get it. |
