Or buy white towels. I only buy white towels, and I bleach them. this has the added benefit of keeping the washer from ever smelling musty. I love the smell of a lightly bleached towel. |
My lighter colored towels are all bleached out too. My friend suggests buying new towels and just keep returning them until the stores get the idea that they need to find quality manufacturers. I very much like her idea. |
I reluctantly switched to all white towels years ago. I kept buying expensive Pottery Barn towels in fancy colors and they were the worst - would spot on the first wash. I have had good luck with high end towels - bought some Matouk ones that have held up well. I also have some target ones that are holding up well - they were expensive by target standards but I forget the brand. |
I keep having the problem that no matter what I do, my towels come out of the dryer smelling mildewy. It's gross.
Are you saying that the reason is that I'm not washing them in hot enough water? I thought it was my old washing machine.... |
Add white vinegar to the wash with the towels. |
Get one set of Costco/Sam's Club medium hand towels in white or off white. Keep one around your vanity and use that when washing your face or when using these products. Then keep the rest of the colored towels for bathing, washing hands with regular soaps, etc. We use the colored towels for bath towels and hand towels in the bathrooms, but keep other towels for when washing the face morning and night. With a pack of 6-12, you can just use one towel for cleaning your face for 2-3 days, then change it out and you should be able to easily make it between laundry cycles. |
+1. We learned these lessons the hard way with our teenagers. |
Our towels are the hotel brand (I think) from Macy's and they're going strong for two or more years now |
Just don't get pottery barn towels( at least the newer versions) they suck. One wash and they fray. I bought 8 for a guest bathroom and within one wash each. ONE . They had multiple strands missing or hanging off. My target towels are in better shape. |
I get the bath sheets from Bed Bath and Beyond that are made in Pakistan. Have had all of them for 4+ years now and no issues. My mom's much older ones (think 10+ years) are just now beginning to fray in a few corners. |
Does anyone in your household use acne medicine with benzoyl peroxide? |
My DH has acne and uses benzoyl peroxide all the time. We have all white everything. I got so tired of things getting ruined. White bathmat, white towels, white sheets, white comforter. It's boring but much better than having stained ugly towels. |
We got some Macy's Hotel Collection towels for our wedding 5 years ago. We have two that we have used constantly. They are still in great shape. I highly recommend! |
I have towels that are 25 years old. They were overly expensive at the time, and I bought them by mistake, but they are still fine, if very old. Our newer towels are Charisma from BBB and they are 7-10 years old. Cheap towels will die quickly. Walmart and Target towels die the fastest (we use those for the animals) We have a lot of towels and wash them together every 10 days. Hang them up to dry when wet. And if they get sour use some Mr Clean to get the smell out. The quality is in the towel, not how you wash them. |
I have found my mineral powder makeup does this as well. |
