Perimenopause and alcohol?

Anonymous
43 and I can still drink occasional liquor but not wine pr beer. 1 cocktail a week is generally fine. 2, even if they are days apart is not fine! Its like I take multiple days to process that one drink!

Its sad. But I'm getting used to it.

But in the last few months my body won’t let me drink. I’m not a giant drinker even though I enjoy it - not worth the calories to me when I’m already fighting with my weight. But one beer at a bbq last weekend left me up all night with night sweats. And 2 not very strong cocktails last night left me up all night sweating.

Is that what’s going on here? Is it time for hormones? Will this phase pass or is this a forever thing now?

Why do you assume you’re in peri at the age of 47 if there are no other symptoms?

I wasn’t a huge drinker either, and at 47 couldn’t tolerate it. I still very occasionally drink, but like others know that I might not sleep and will feel like shit.

Thanks - never thought of electrolytes. I have a trip coming up that involves wine tasting and I plan on doing minimal sipping but it certainly can’t hurt to bring something like this along!

Take one of these before you go. Helps quite a bit.

It has gotten worse for me so I take an antihistamine if I’m going to have a glass of wine now and it keeps my symptoms which I think are mast cell reactions at bay.
