Signing up your kid to play a sport is the same as an eight year old working in a factory during the Industrial Revolution? |
Your child’s labor and your money is paying someone $400k a year. Not The Jungle, but should cause pause. |
Way to completely miss the point - They're not a "CEO" but I used that as a comparison and I bet a ton of non-profits with that amount of responsibility/revenue are paid similarly at the top. Again, barking up the wrong tree - complain about mismanagement or how your kid on the 6th team was treated unfairly, but this is large organization. |
I actually have no kids playing - but as an Alexandrian, the monopoly of ASA and the City resources expended for ASA to see that the director is getting paid $400k off the backs of children is unbelievable. |
It's quite believable because it's happening - again do you realize how many kids/families this involves. This is not a mom & pop operation. |
It is significantly more money than the ACHS athletic director who also oversees middle school sports. |
Research how many of these government supported nonprofit NGOs pay their executives for doing nothing and come back to us. |
And this is a significantly more complex job. I don't think you are grasping how big this organization is. |
|
Yeah. Absolutely shocking an organization that fields a ridiculous number of teams of mediocre kids whose parents are willing to pay top dollar to say their kids play travel soccer, and who lowered and lowered the age for travel, has bloated salaries.
I know some teams have excellent players and coaches, but let's not kid ourselves the real reason 8 years olds and 17 year olds are playing on the 4th or 5th team in their age bracket. |
This is really the point IMO. The shill pumping up what an organization it is and how it’s justified is just that, a shill. “But it’s only $2m in salaries!” Tell me you’ve never run a business without telling me you’ve never run a business… Would ASA appreciably run any differently with a director making 200k? Does it run so much better than every other club? Probably not. Should people be paying what they pay if an organization shows itself to basically use its customers as a piggy bank? Also, probably not. But not my dollar and never will be… Fun thread though! |
I suspect there's a lot of other publicly available information you've ignored. Like a lot. Answer the question, Claire. |
| MYOB or make your own f'n money. Move on FFS. |
Do you look up the salaries of all the CEOs for the purchases you make and post your thoughts on their salary? |
| Is Alexandria Soccer Association a nonprofit like Arlington or not? If it’s a nonprofit, that seems quite high. |
Let’s say 6 teams at every age for each sex for “travel” starting at age 8. So 120 “travel” teams at 18 players. 2160 “travel” child-athletes. The rec program could be 100% run by the City like basketball - so that should not be a consideration. I dare say that is similar to the ACPS athletics. Please explain why ASA is not like ACPS. |
