This. OP, go to court and see if they offer you a deal based on your record, but don't argue like this. And yes the other people that passed all got tickets, there are sensors and they issue them pretty much automatically.

Since I first posted, we have since learned that the ticket website says the ticket happens when the red lights on the outside of the bus come on and not when the stop sign arm swings out. However, there is no proof that these lights went on in the video provided to us.

So, my take is that there's no proof we could have seen the lights and no proof that the lights went on as they should have. Plus, I wonder if the 2-3 other cars that passed by before and after also received tickets.

Can they enforce a ticket when they are not 100% sure the warning lights on the bus functioned properly?

I hope you honestly don't believe you may be wrongly ticketed. Did you not see the yellow lights either?

I'm not the OP, but the buses in neighborhood often flash their yellows and let the drivers pass before they flash the red.

NP but I'm pretty sure I've seen buses put on their yellows and just pull over to the right. They never put on the reds or stop sign then. They are just waiting. Has anyone seen that or am I imagining it? If they are not actively doing pickups but waiting for sports teams, etc.

You knew when the bus was braking and coming to a stop that the lights/sign were about to come out. It’s not like you need to see the stop sign to know you need to stop.

Exactly. But are they using their flashing yellows and never progressing to red? In that case everyone's argument against OP is moot because the yellows would stay on indefinitely and yes, she should pass slowly with caution.

The court will assume the bus lights were functioning properly unless you prove otherwise.

How do you know the other drivers didn’t also get ticketed?

You had notice the bus was stopping and you aren’t showing any circumstances that would have made it unsafe for you to stop.

For a school bus.

There is a chance you could win or reduce your fine if you go to court. What will that cost you?
