What’s the best coffee?

We also used to do Major Dickason’s but switched when the flavor changed awhile back. We now have a subscription to Grit (locations in Cville and Richmond).

You don't think Cafe Bustelo is rich and bold?

Also try Green Mountain Coffee - Dark Magic (not the kcup, the actual coffee).

I find both of those to be better than Starbucks Dark.

La Llave is the strongest nice tasting one imo. Bustelo is a little stronger but not as smooth.

Qaurtermaine French Roast (already mentioned). I walked into a new coffee roaster in downtown bethesda where they had a dish of darkly roasted beans on display. I thought, "Ah, finally a place to rival Quartermaine." Nope. They said that was an example of how NOT to roast coffee. How disappointing. If you like it strong and dark, Q French Roast is the only game in town. They roast their beans in Rockville.

Just use more. We have the same preference for bold and dark and have been alternating between all of the above mentioned and we really can't tell a difference.

If you use more of a medium roast coffee, it turns out bitter. Good strong coffee has to be darkly roasted.

I’m certainly no expert, but if you want to go down the rabbit hole, James Hoffman has a Youtube channel where he analyzes everything coffee related.

Here are a few of his videos that you might find helpful, but he has far more material to explore:

Personally, I like to keep it simple and go with instant. My favorite is DeLallo Instant Espresso, but because I’m cheap I generally drink Aldi’s store brand instant.

I have to admit their new 1971 dark roast is distinctly excellent. Reading the descriptions on social media made me lol. People say it tastes like a jiffy lube.

I like Rustic Route coffee. Local women owned shop. You can pick size - small medium, large. You can also pick whole beans or ground. Also have subscriptions. Free shipping to MOCO. I found it by accident when I was googling looking for places that sold fresh roasted beans in smaller quantities. Feels good to support a local business.
