And yes both last fall and spring had lots of rain but I don’t think it was that much more than usual. Given all the rain I was actually surprised by how many tournaments went on as scheduled.

Your team has turf fields available? At our HS the boys have a turf field and still somehow get gym priority over the girls.

File a Title IX complaint.

Agree. And yet you know nothing will be done as long as this administration is in power.

What was done for girl's sports under the prior administration?

The college teams are playing, the fields can be fixed, it just takes motivation.

Um, it also takes the school system building fields that can be fixable. Have you seen the state of some of these HS fields?

Seen them? I've worked them with rakes, turned puddles of mud into dirt. It just takes motivation.

If you managed with just rakes and not also shopvacs, you aren't dealing with the worst of them.

DDs HS team (JV) is highly motivated and we did have a “clean the field” day. They still haven’t been able to play any games.

Games and scrimmages HAVE been happening.

Ump here. The HS season is SUPPOSED to start today, but obviously with Weather Armageddon upon us this afternoon, my varsity game tonight has already been moved to next Wednesday.

Right now, I'm due to do a JV game on Wednesday and a varsity game on Thursday in Loudoun. On Friday, I'm at a private school in DC. Saturday I'm doing a USA tournament, Sunday I'm calling four doubleheaders.

Last week, I called a varsity scrimmage on Monday, a varsity game on Tuesday, and we got the top of the first in at a scrimmage on Wednesday before lightning struck and the heavens opened up just before F1 was about to throw her first pitch in the bottom of the first. We joked with the coaches that we'd change the rules and judge dolphin kicks rounding first base.

Did the USSSA tournament this past weekend, too. It was chilly and windy, but playable. Lot of teams shaking off the rust. Umpires shaking off the rust, too. And feeling very achy and sore the next day LOL.

At the lower level in Montgomery County, the County has closed the fields through the end of March so MCLL Softball(and baseball) can't start practice until then.

I follow a lot of different teams, and it looks like it's been sporadic. Both my DD's school scrimmages (private schools) were canceled last week. But regardless, thanks for getting out there! Maybe we will get softball weather by April. My younger kids still have 2 weeks until their first games.

Where we are (Arlington) HS season started two weeks ago. DDs games have been rained out. And there's so much rain already today I bet fields are unplayable until Wednesday at the earliest, probably more like Thursday.

We're going to need to build a fire by the stands tonight.
