Softball Weather

College softball has started, high school tryouts are starting, can we get a little warmer and a lot dryer. For kids softball we had more rain outs last spring than any other year I can remember. Can 2026 please be different?

Anyone else excited to see some games?

Virginia HS tryouts start tomorrow, and they are inside at our school.

There is a reason that FL, GA, CA, TX, AZ players dominate softball and baseball.

We're waiting to hear from our school, chances are the baseball team will have the gym and the girls will be out of luck as usual.

DDs tryouts also start Monday- a combo of turf fields and indoors. Tho we’ll see if they even go to school Monday!
And yes both last fall and spring had lots of rain but I don’t think it was that much more than usual. Given all the rain I was actually surprised by how many tournaments went on as scheduled.

Last fall we had a postponed game, but no games missed, and almost no practices missed, which is unusually lucky. Last spring our season was wrecked by rain.

Your team has turf fields available? At our HS the boys have a turf field and still somehow get gym priority over the girls.

I'm fine with them cancelling school but they really should have made the gyms available.

Arlington has a few MS with turf fields- at least one diamond and one rectangular.

Not sure about high schools but I know at least one Fairfax County HS softball team was using the Patriot Park North little league fields for part of their tryouts. Our school has slightly later tryouts than FCPS and was using PPN also.

I saw one weather forecaster saying the weather models are showing cold and stormy patterns still coming up. It's not far out enough to impact younger kid travel/rec seasons, but I really don't want the start of the school ball season to be a mess. Ugh.

I'm excited for high school softball season! Fingers crossed for good weather and fun games for all.
