Why do so many dog owners not pick up dog poop in snow? cold?

Same in my neighborhood. So much dog poop around since the big snow/freeze

My kids sometimes walk the dog and I’ve told them that if they are the AH doing this, I will basically disown them. We live in a really nice neighborhood—people have expensive dogs and take care of their stuff. It’s maddening.

I do think some of the smaller ones are fox poop though. We have tons of foxes.

The difference is whether or not they have seeds in them.

+1000

It's easy to differentiate between dog poop and other animals.

Wild animals are actually a lot more conscientious about their waste than many, many dog owners.

Dog owner here and I totally agree. So much poop everywhere. I always pick up.

I even saw a huuuuge pile of poop on my kids' school field. Huuge one. Disgusting.

I didn’t do this, but I was tempted to toss my dog’s poop in the yards of neighbors who shoveled their driveways and walkways, but not their sidewalks…

My theory is that everyone is busy looking at their phone and not paying attention to their dog AT ALL. Like, doesn't even notice that the dog has pooped because their nose is buried in their phone. I see it every time I take my dogs out.

That’s a dumb theory for this post. The uptick that we are discussing is the recent increase everyone is seeing.

Hmm. I've changed my mind. Perhaps in very cold temps, people have difficulty handling poo bags with gloves, like I do, and don't want to take their gloves off in the bitter cold. If I can't tie a knot in the bag with my gloves, I take them off to do so - and in the low windchills we had, that was quite an experience. But I pick up no matter what.

So maybe a little of both?

You're a kind person to assume any kind of good faith from these creeps. I'm disabled, and cold sensitivity is part of it. I still managed to properly bag and dispose of my pet's waste. Discomfort isn't an excuse.

It's definitely not an excuse, but I do think it's a reason there's always more poop left out when it snows. I think it's specifically snow and not merely cold, though - people don't want to touch it, and don't want to take that extra step into snow to reach.

I can't even imagine being so supremely lazy. It takes 30 seconds, and the turd is warm! Dog craps, hand leaves pocket/glove, fiddle with bag, grab turd, tie bag (or get a bag clip and just clip it to your leash). There's no excuse. People just suck.
