If you’re old enough to remember the smaller, original location, it was definitely about the food and it was so good. Then it moved to the larger location with the huge terrace bar and was totally taken over by happy hour drinkers which was kind of sad. I still went there for the lomo saltado but it wasn’t really the same. There was also a really good Indonesian place that was right near that original location. There are places in the suburbs that meet OP’s criteria but I agree it’s getting tougher to find. |
| Sfoglina downtown and Van Ness both offer a 3-course lunch for $28 that is really good. |
| Unconventional Diner on 9th. |
| Kafe Leopold in Georgetown. |

Im so over the dining scene almsot everywhere in the US. I just saw the menu at a smaller cafe bread place in PG. They want $26 for a personal size pepperoni pizza. A sausage pizza is $29. A pizza dinner is now going to run $100+ after taxes, tipping, drinks.
I'm done with dining out. The US is a massive ripoff. |
hey, I have a lot of great memories at that bar! 😆 the food was good, too I actually didn’t know it is still in business |

Yes, there are many restaurants like this in the Bethesda area. What kicks up the bill price is the drinks! So if you are prepared to not get alcohol with dinner, or to go during happy hour, or to have a cocktail but know you will have a larger bill at the end, then:
Raku/Rakugaki Silver Olazzo Cubanos Barrel & Crow Kadhai Cher Cher Bacchus Lia’s (I’ve never been a huge Chef Geoff’s fan but we like Lia’s a lot) Birdsong Bistro Aracosia Macon Two Amy’s |
|
Surfside up on Wisconsin just past the Cathedral
Hill East Burger on Penn Ave on the Hill |
If you haven’t been in years why are you recommending it? |
It was always like this. You’re just at the stage where you have a kitchen where you can cook a nice pizza so you no longer need to go out. |
| Prim Rose |
What in my post led you to believe that I was recommending Chef Geoffs when I was clearly asking why the other person said "LOL, Chef Geoffs?" |
| We go to Zaytina a lot. It's inexpensive and the atmosphere is nice. |
Nice! |
What? Surfside is too pricey for what it is (like their other restaurant, Millie’s). |
