Mature Headbands Oxymoron?

Anonymous
The thick padded headbands look better when your hair is flat, that’s why they’re popular. A thin headband only looks good if your hair has some volume. Flat hair+small headband=gym.

I once tried to figure out why the queen looked good in scarves but I looked like an old timey country maid and it’s because her hair was always teased way up under it. Or a bump it or something?

But Princess Anne tried to do it when she was sweaty.

Women aren’t wearing the thick headbands because they think they look better than a thin one on hair with volume, they’re wearing them because they don’t have hair with volume available at that moment. I think PPs are comparing them in their mind to an alternative that would take tons of hair time.

Exactly. When OP says "soft headbands" I'm picturing the Sweaty Bands craze of 2010.

This looks fine for working out or running errands but you shouldn't wear it to work or a nice dinner.

Uch. The lashes and stupid hairband with that obnoxious jacket. Ugly mess then and now.

I have seen some of the royals wear these and I am not a fan.

I hate those thick padded headbands.

Those are awful

I get why you all are saying this, but it really just proves that you are out of style.

I’m old but I have super long wavy hair and wear the soft knotted headbands to keep it out of my face. Get tons of compliments

Maybe I'm just on the younger side of this forum (I'm 32) and I really like the padded headbands. I only have one but it gets complimented a lot when I wear it.

I wouldn't call it a soft headband though, it definitely has a structured frame to it like normal headbands. I *think* OP is referring to fabric headbands but I'm not sure.

Wait - who in the world is wearing a thick padded headband in 2026? I saw knot headbands last summer on people, but while I see padded headbands (especially with pearl details like this) in store I don't see them in the wild.

But I'm in the boring-est part of the suburbs fashion-wise, so...

The first woman has a lot of volume, and the second one is okay in the photo but in real life from the front I doubt it would work.

So ... why are you on about what you do and don't see "in the wild"?

Second one is awful. Looks so cheap.

Everything looks ridiculous on Savannah. She's kind of weird looking in general.

Savannah has rare good hair days. It's kind of odd, being in such a public role, that she wouldn't have better hair styles.

I'm okay with being out of style. I hate barrel jeans too.
