Mature Headbands Oxymoron?

Anonymous
I’m in my mid 50s with fine, slightly wavy shoulder length hair. The color is nice and it’s shiny, but sometimes limp. Because my hair is so fragile, I try not to wear plastic clips or hair ties because it breaks. But there are times I’d like more volume or to get it off my face. My teen daughter wears soft headbands and thinks I can do the same. In fact, she gave me one for Christmas. But I’m so old! Do you think headbands on middle aged women look weird? I lived in headbands in my late teens and twenties, but not since.

Don't know but same age and following

Yes but who cares. You do you.

I'm 55 and wear them. You just have to be careful about styling the whole outfit correctly. You don't have to end up looking like Little Bo Peep in them, but you might have to work to avoid it, depending on the headband and your hair and what else you are wearing.

I think it depends on how you style it. If you have a tweed headband with helmet hair like something out of the 80s, yeah that looks bad. If you have long shiny hair and a basic tortoiseshell headband that looks cute.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "soft headband." Like the fabric you just slide around your neck and pull up? I think those look sloppy and wouldn't really wear those outside of working out.

I have a couple of really pretty dupioni silk headbands I got in Charleston that I think look nice but again, it's in how you style it.

I've always worn headbands, and I prefer slim rigid velvet ones specifically. Try a bunch of them on and figure it out.

Most importantly, I think we should nix any discussion of whether clothing or accessories are age-appropriate. That's just another way to control women.

Wear what you bloody well want.

Soft headband is appropriate for working out and maybe touring southern italy or france.

A grown woman can wear a hard tortishell headband anytime.

Of the links, only one of the first I like is the animal print. Don't like the second. imho

Weird ... where did the post with the links go?

Sorry I asked Jeff to delete that post because I mistakenly linked to my private account.

The links showed a knotted silk full wrap and a thinner silk rigid band the same color as my hair.

I think they look ridiculous on me, but I think they often look nice on other people. Trust yourself to know whether or not you're one of those other people. I don't think it's an age thing, just what works with your hair, face, and personal style.

The problem with all stuff like headbands is they only look good if your hair is styled and clean. What I need is a hairstyle/accessory for when my hair is limp and greasy, and I haven’t found it.

I feel like the MomTok/SLOMW women all wear these...

They look ridiculous on Savannah Guthrie.

Just don’t wear those huge padded ones - those are so odd
