NEW YORK (AP) — A planned Christmas Eve jazz concert at the Kennedy Center, a holiday tradition dating back more than 20 years, has been canceled. The show's host, musician Chuck Redd, says that he called off the performance in the wake of the White House announcing last week that President Donald Trump's name would be added to the facility.
As of last Friday, the building's facade reads The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. According to the White House, the president's handpicked board approved the decision, which scholars have said violates the law. Trump had been suggesting for months he was open to changing the center's name. “When I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then hours later on the building, I chose to cancel our concert,” Redd told The Associated Press in an email Wednesday. Redd, a drummer and vibraphone player who has toured with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Ray Brown, has been presiding over holiday “Jazz Jams” at the Kennedy Center since 2006, succeeding bassist William “Keter” Betts. |

It kind of puzzles me why Trump chose to zero in on the Kennedy Center in particular. He isn't fond of arts, he didn't give the center major $$$, he just likes his name on buildings but surely there are more appropriate targets?
And come to think of it, if he must, why wouldn't his name come second? Like Kennedy and Trump Center vs Trump and Kennedy? |

Everything Trump does is revenge for something else.
The only reason Trump is president is because Obama made fun of him at the correspondents dinner. The Trump name will never be like the Kennedy name. Well, I personally think most of the Kennedy men are deplorable. The reality is they’ve done a bunch of amazing things mostly because of Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Jealous, so he’s gonna destroy everything Kennedy. He released the Kennedy files, he tore up the rose garden, he renamed the Kennedy center, he nominated the psychopath RFK Junior. Everything is because he’s jealous. I’m sure there’s some individual moments over the last 30 years that pissed him off that had to do with Kennedy‘s. We can’t name them all. |

They had trouble attracting real talented artists to agree to perform at the Honors this year. I say this because I know people connected to the Kennedy Center Honors and they had a hard time getting talent to sign on to participe. I know people who were asked and said “no thank you.”
Trump is a man who is deeply insecure. He can’t stand the thought that people may be ambivalent towards him. He wants people to adore him but if they don’t or won’t do that he’d rather fight with them because that reassures him that he matters and exists. I feel bad for him in that no sane person would ever choose to be him. But I feel worse for all of us—MAGA included—that he does what he does to all of us to make us pay attention and confirm his existence. |
