15 yo - 2 to 3 days a week as his sport is in offseason

12 yo - multiple sports year round. 4 days per week in school block for athletics for whichever team he is on in that particular season. 4 days per week out of school hours for his primary sport and training. Then games on weekends. And he just signed up for middle school musical which will involve 3 to 4 days per week. All at a school known for be grueling on homework.

8 yo - she does no sports but does music, art and theater clubs 4 days a week.

15 year old gets himself to his activities. The two younger ones are the time sink.

All of our kids range from bottom 5% to bottom 15% for weight for their age while ranging in 40-60%tile for height, but their mensurables are all healthy to strong (run times, strength, etc.). Calorie consumption is constant and healthy foods, but they are all on the go and metabolism seems to be humming along for them. The oldest does look like a cross country runner, but he’s been that way since he was 2 years old.

My 10 year old does often drink protein shakes before or after sports practices. But he is a big kid and doesn't need to gain weight. He is just hungry and its easy quick calories.

Op here - oldest is a girl. She is about 4’8” tall give or take.

I'm really confused about why you're concerned. I have a 12 year old girl who is 5' tall and weighs about 78lbs. She's tall and muscular with long limbs, and she eats a ton. Nobody is even remotely concerned about her weight even though her BMI is something like 5th percentile for her age.

Me again - my 12 year old that I just mentioned usually has sports 3x a week.

My 13yo is 130lbs. Right now soccer is 3x per week plus a game on weekend.
Over the winter basketball will be 3x per week plus 2x soccer.
She used to eat a small lunch on school day and now eats no lunch on school days. She had a good breakfast ( eggs/fruit/grains) and we eat dinner early, like around 4. Partly because she’s hungry then and partly it works for the sports schedule.
She then has either a snack or dessert around 8 before bed.

She just started doing soccer and track at the same time. So lots of heavy exercise and running.

I was lucky if she gained 1-2 pounds a year for the past 8 years. Now I am worried we are going to backtrack. She eats well but just not a ton. Very balanced diet. At this point do I just let her eat anything as long as she is getting calories in?

Op if they just started doing soccer and track (assuming at the beginning of the school year), how do you even know it's an issue yet? It's been what, two, three weeks?

My 4th grader does 2 days a week of LL adjacent travel baseball. He also did 3 days of required rec league (5 days a week of baseball) last spring and it was wayyy too much. He is much less stressed since that ended. He has had a healthy weight gain through that. We do 2 dinners basically- one before practice and another afterwards.

My teens have had sports 5-6x per week since around age 11-12. They played travel soccer and I think it used to be close to 5x per week in upper elementary. One son plays basketball- school and AAU. He plays basketball everyday. He also plays when he doesn’t have formal practice and games.

Both boys were starving late at night and they ate a low and grew. We are a lean family so they are still thin but have muscle. I wish I had their six packs!

My elementary daughter has sports 2-3x per week and dance 2x per week.

*Ate a lot.

They would eat after school and after practice. Both boys don’t like to eat before practice and games.
