Huh? He looks nothing like Belichick. The majority of Vin’s career has been spent working with collegiate athletes.

Lananna was a great coach! Unfortunately, he is 72 and from what I've heard, he delegates to his assistants quite a bit

VT has won like 20 ACC championships in track, so an ACC title is nice for UVA, but nowhere close to the multiple national championships he won in his prime at previous stops.

Yes - just googled it. For someone who isn't even in college yet, I'm guessing he is highly unlikely to be there for all four years of college.

Your child will be spending a ton of time with the other members of the team - cross country runners in particular tend to be very cliquey (this is not a bad thing - just a general rule of thumb - I have several close friends who ran XC in college and most of their close friends were from their teams - great groups of guys). How do they fit in on the two teams?

The other question is $$$. Are you getting a scholarship? What is your net cost.

If your child wants Econ and thinks they might want business, try to get a guaranteed acceptance to McIntire. Doesn't hurt to ask. Worst case they don't use it.

Unless kid is going to have an Olympic/pro track career, go with the best fit from a school/team perspective. Going to be spending a bunch of time with his teammates for the next four years.

No great difference in career or grad school prospects graduating from either school.

I’m pretty sure the athlete experience is similar at each and depends on the sport.

I doubt the current UNC football players under Belicheck are expected to attend much class (outside of studying football tape).

I don’t think you can go wrong with either and this is a great problem to have. OP said kid wanted Econ, not business. If it was business, neither UVA nor Chapel Hill have direct admits to the business school.

We do not need to rehash the ridiculous prejudice re NC kids and their intelligence or make claims that UNC students are dumber bc of the high, state mandates in state 82% minimum. Every UNC thread turns into that and it seems like there are 1 or 2 posters fixated on this theory and hijack threads.

The schools are different. I went to both (Chapel Hill undergrad and UVA grad). I was an OOS Econ major at UNC, they have a fantastic Econ department. I am sure UVA does too. While I am sure UVA alumni network is strong, the UNC network (esp the athlete alumni network) is incredible. If your kid is going to be a division 1 student athlete, I would also focus on that.

Just so you know, this is how track works. There's a head coach and each major area has a coach. Distance, hurdles, throwers, etc.

This thread is a great reminder that DCUM is not a great place for info.
