All afternoon and evening alone in Los Angeles, what should I do?

Definitely rent a car

The Getty Museum (about 45 min from Burbank by car)

Griffith Observatory

Old Town Pasadena (Vromans bookstore, boutiques, a variety of cuisines)

Hike in Fryman Canyon (https://www.hikespeak.com/trails/fryman-canyon-loop-hike-wilacre-park-hollywood-hills/)

Agree, you will want to rent a car. Also agree with visiting Griffith Observatory. It’s crowded, but for good reason- great trails and views, and the observatory is cool to check out. IMHO, I think it’s best in the evening, when the sun is setting and the city lights start to twinkle.

Not far from Burbank is Mulholland Drive. This has more scenic views and glimpses of some spectacular homes.

Santa Monica is a bit of a drive, but it might not be too bad in the morning, on a weekend. If it’s your first time to L.A., I think it’s worth going here- maybe rent a bike and ride to Venice?

Final suggestions are Little Tokyo, near downtown, is a nice little neighborhood, as is Koreatown. Beverly Hills isn’t too hard to get to, but it’s overpriced stores and food. Interesting to see once, but not my scene.
