Anyone watching the new Billy Joel biopic?

So much raw talent and his music such a gift and a true expression of his life. I especially love how he presents in such a genuine, unpretentious way... it was painful watching his family drama and glad he found love again. The fact that his ex-wives all appeared in the documentary speaks volumes.

This. None of them seemed angry or bitter (although they might have been at one time). They all seemed to realize that his drinking wasn't something that they could fix. I didn't know he had a stepson or a half brother and that his father grew up in Germany. I felt so bad for him that his father basically left him and his sister and never tried to contact them.

Agreed.

The videos from when Alexa was little were heartbreaking. They loved her SO much ... I hope she sees that.

I loved it! To say that Billy is a talented musician and entertainer is an understatement. I listened to Billy's music from about age 10 until age 25 and then stopped as I explored new/different genres. But, I was able to sing every word of every song in the documentary because he was an incredible story teller with his lyrics. I'm a NY'er and loved that the documentary was also an homage to NY and NYC.

An amazing tribute to a real talent. He is flawed and human and not perfect but he is amazing. The song Piano Man will be iconic for ages. And I also agree that the fact all his ex wives were available and honest to talk about him speaks volumes ……

I always thought he didn't get enough respect as a musician and songwriter. Already see the evidence on this thread.

It's a bit the same reaction Taylor Swift gets...oh you have written literally dozens of songs that speak to people and are insanely memorable melodies and oh you play an instrument flawlessly....but you are popular so you are overrated and kind of a talentless hack.

X1000

Totally Agree. The masses sometimes pick apart talent that is essentially virtuoso level, in favor of one trick ponies/ flashes in the pan.

It's almost like if he wasn't an astonishingly great pianist, and had a quarter of the number of hits he had, people would respect him more. How silly!

I do feel the same way about Taylor Swift.

Something is very wrong if a person does not enjoy listening to Billy Joel.

The Stranger is one of my favorite songs of all time. Also Innocent Man as I went through something like that.

I loved that little piece where he turned Uptown Girl into a classical music piece. He probably would have been a noted classical composer if he’d been born in that era.

Joke: Which Billy Joel album cover emphasizes his Huge eyes?

(All of them)

Does he have a thyroid problem

Hey! There are dozens of us with Huge Eyes and we don't have a medical problem. Just Huge Eyes. We are expressive

I mean, the classical album he did put out was number one on the classical music charts

Speaks volumes, huh? Just more Hollywood propaganda trying to normalize and glorify hedonism, eroding religion, breaking vows and the casual destruction of families. Oh but he can sing catchy piano songs, what a mensch!

Spare me.
