Pretty basic for Ivies. These stats will get you a lottery ticket. |
The grades aren’t special? Are you drunk? The kid has a 4.0 UW. What else should it be? |
Great stats; but stats are just what you need to get onto the field. The real game is outside of stats and it basically means that you need to assume 'no' because everyone has the stats. |
| Without knowing how much grade inflation at her school and what the pointy interest and internships are, impossible to guess. When pp said the grades weren’t “special,” they meant that at some local public schools, 20 percent or more of the class has a 4.0. Big difference between applying from a school with that type of grade inflation and one where that gpa truly puts your child in the top 5 kids on the class, so that’s the first thing to determine. |

Its a bog standard cv
missing only sports and musical prowess where were the internships and what is the pointy interest? These are going to have to be astonishing to make up for the gaps |
Are there any feeder schools (public or private) for Dartmouth in the DMV? I don't hear about many kids going there. |
| How many other kids from same HS have similar stats? If there are others and they also apply to the same Ivies then be ready for heartbreak. It is rare, rare, rare for an Ivy to accept multiple applicants from the same high school. |
Or just shrug and move on. It doesn't have to be that deep. Get a grip. |
| Is 36 ACT rare? DCUM always says once you cross a threshold, the score doesn’t matter. 36 seems to be the only thing here that distinguishes OP from many many public school high GPA kids. |
Not as rare as 1600 SAT. Most concordances treat 1570+ as equivalent to 36. |
+100 |
I looked into Dartmouth admissions bc I thought it'd be a great fit for one of my kids. But it's a completely useless school for unhooked high stats kids. They seem to take a lot of students from NYC privates and New England boarding schools. The rest of the class is athletes, URM, and FGLI. That's it. There is zero space for anyone else. Pointless app if you're not in one of those boxes. Didn't bother applying. And there is no school in the DMV that sends a significant amount of students to Dartmouth. |
| Maybe the better question is does your child actually want to go to a particular Ivy because it's their top choice or simply will any Ivy will do for the perceived prestige, car sticker and golden ticket? |
36 AP was better |
St. Albans send 2-3/year out of 70. 13 over the past 5 years per their website: https://www.stalbansschool.org/about/meet-st-albans That's as much of a feeder as you get. |
