Do you guys call it “North Bethesda” as it’s own? Or do you consider it as Rockville

I have lived in MoCo since 1995. North Bethesda was a term then only used by people who were under age 35 and lived in that area (a small group). Then, the redevelopment occurred and the developers grabbed onto the term to try to bring cache to the area. North Bethesda is not the same as the names of other unincorporated areas of the county like Bethesda or Silver Spring. But, times change and now a large crop of people have normalized the term North Bethesda.

Now for the spin off - North Potomac or Germantown …

Maybe it should be called SoRo (south rockville)

I personally think Rockville has more to offer than Bethesda these days, so North Bethesda is not a vanity title to me. I call it rockville but if someone is asking more specifically, then saying “north Bethesda” is a real and accurate explanation and I don’t have any problem with it. I don’t know why people get so worked up about this stuff, but I suspect it’s the same people who get mad about vanity sizing in pants

I call it “past White Flint where toys r us was.”

Haha same

Honestly this is the point — there is a space between Rockville and Bethesda

Yeah it’s called “past white flint.” It’s where you go for obscure businesses that might be part warehouse. Like do you need a hot tub? They probably sell them out there. That one store that is the only place you can buy fireplaces and patio furniture for some reason? It’s out there past white flint! Fabric, obviously. And the only Arby’s, should you require one for some reason.

That Arby’s has closed, RIP. And just as they brought back potato cakes!

I live in the city of Rockville and when the Twinbrook Quarter was up for public comment, a lot of people from Bethesda and Morth Bethesda were upset that the city of Rockville had the ability to allow several huge apartment buildings in their school zone. They all said no, don’t build. All the residents of their city of Rockville that can actually vote in city elections said yes please build it. It got approved because north Bethesda isn’t Rockville and the people living there DGAF about it he health of the city. North Bethesda is not my Rockville.

Well sheet. First they came for La Madeleine, and I said nothing.

Rockville for the sane, north Bethesda for the strivers. Like a previous PP said, a more appropriate is South Rockville. That area matches with Rockville far better than legit Bethesda

20852 is Rockville. Embarrassing to call it north Bethesda.

The strivers have always been the people who police this sort of thing. No one else cares!

+1. Like it or not, North Bethesda is a useful description. People know where it is.

This always reminds me of the debate on whether that part of Fairfax County south of 495 should be called “Alexandria.”

I think it’s bizarre to say you live in Alexandria but you’re not paying taxes to Alexandria or when you call the police you're calling Fairfax County.

At least it’s easy to distinguish Bethesda from North Bethesda. Maybe we should make it Alexandria and South Alexandria.

It’s rockville. I’ve lived here my entire life (different parts of rockville) and calling it north Bethesda is a joke imo. It’s a status thing for real estate as is north Potomac. I used to live in a part of Rockville (20854) within the Rockville city limits and my mail was routed through the post office at River and Falls. So many people called it Potomac. I never did as it was not actually Potomac.

Exactly. Do you really want to spend your time explaining it’s where a mall or an arby’s or a buy buy buy baby used to
be? Get over yourself.
