Over 2500 resumes for a single position - my story

The takeaway here is to find common ground with the decision maker interviewing you. I don’t know if OP is male or female or anything. It doesn’t matter. It’s the common ground that makers.

In many cases, the decision maker is female. So, women, find the common ground.

My company in 2024 received 1.6 million Applications and they hired 5,000 last year.

So 1.6 million people applied 5,000 jobs. Do the math.

Great companies routinely get 1,000 to 3,000 applicants per job posting.

I was in final round at Google once. I was shocked I made it past thousands of people to be only the 2nd best which ment no job.

It’s rough out there

Great job and kudos to you! I'm 55 and in a tech field, so I know the job search can be tough. Congrats on doing so well.

Yup, this was my takeaway - oh look, white male privilege at work again.

Why you racist?

Please golf has a rich history of racism and sexism, hello Augusta

If golf has a rich history of racism, please explain why there are so many asian players on both the PGA/LPGA golf tour? Aren’t they also minorities?

Do you know what history means?

You obviously don't know dick about DC golf. East Potomac and Rock Cree are majority black and poor, fool.

OP here. Why do you have to assume that I am white and grew up with money? FWIW, I am asian, and my parents were poor Vietnamese immigrants when they came to the US. I am just grateful to have found a good-paying job at the age of 56.

So you got the job for reasons that have nothing to do with genuine qualifications. It would be fairer to pick names from a hat.

Wow that is crazy to draw that conclusion.

That is absolutely true in 90% of situations, private or public sector.

So you think because he did better in the interview and has years of experience he some how has less technical knowledge? Talk about make sh#t up.

So your direct manager preferred someone else and knows you and the CIO have a special connection? That’s going to be fun.

Nice fake story. You would have been 6 at fall of Saigon — so you would have said they were poor immigrants when “we came to the us”.

My BFF growing up was Vietnamese, there is no way they were paying green fees regularly to play a game. Hat tip to make sure you story was you weren’t a fancy Asian.

Anonymous wrote:I started my new IT job this past week at the age of 56 with a 275K per year salary after a ten-month layoff. I was told on my first day by my direct manager that there were over 2500 resumes for this position. 150 candidates were contacted for a phone interview, and 25 candidates, out of 150, were selected for an on-site interview. Five candidates, out of the remaining twenty-five, were selected to meet with the CIO, and the other four candidates were in their early 30's. I was a college golfer many years ago, and it happened that the CIO was a big fan of golf, but he attended a rival school, think of UVA and VA Tech. He talked about how his alma mater is better than mine in athletics, and we talked very little about the actual job. Anyway, my direct manager's boss selected a younger candidate, but he was overruled by the CIO. I am extremely grateful to be working again at my age.

I know it is a very tough market out there for tech/IT but little I know that over 2500 resumes for one position. It makes me appreciate the opportunity that is given to me even more. Best of luck to everyone out there looking for jobs.

I’m in HR. I call bullshit.
There is NO WAY In HELL 150 candidates were contacted for phone interview. Maayyybe 15-25.
On sites? BS that 25 candidates were walked through that lobby. Maybe 8-10 tops.
