If Fairfax County Public Schools refuses to drop DEI, allow men in women’s sports, and continues sanctuary policies by not working with ICE, then losing Title 1 funding is on them. They were warned.

Let’s be honest, a big chunk of that funding goes toward supporting students tied to undocumented families. If the county cooperated with ICE and enforced immigration laws, a lot of that population would be out of the system, and the need for Title 1 would drop significantly.

The person who brought up ICE talked about FCPS losing funding by not cooperating with ICE. I'm not sure what else that could mean, other than ICE in schools.

Which would make all parents of non white kids, regardless of legal status, reluctant to send their kids to school lest they be wrongly shipped off. That's probably what PP would prefer, but it means a huge number of kids not getting educated and potentially not supervised. Disastrous.

Keep an eye on how the health room/clinics are staffed and managed. The entire school health program is being dismantled.

My recommendation? Follow the law, stop the political games, and focus on real education. If they won’t, then redirect that money to schools that do.

The Supreme Court determined that school's have to educate all students, undocumented or not. Plyler vs Doe 1982. So FCPS is following the law

Correct but there isn't anything saying you can't report undocumented immigrants to ice, feel free to educate but they MUST report for deport.

Putting aside how unworkable this is for a lot of reasons (including, how is it the school's job or expertise to figure out immigration status) I do not believe for a minute that a reduction in school population would result in more money for the remaining students. That's a fantasy.

FCPS spent $124 million on ESOL last year alone. That money can be spent elsewhere.

Do you think only undocumented students need ESOL? Lots of legal residents need it, including kids born here.

All money could be spent elsewhere, there are a lot of needs and wants. But there's zero chance that ESOL money would be redistributed to other school programs as you seem to imagine.

The amount FCPS spent on ESOL grew exponentially during the years Biden left the border open. Before we spent this on ESOL, it was spent on other programs.

Im a teacher in a title 1 school and my job isn’t a threat. The kids will still be there next year, they aren’t going anywhere and the teachers will be needed.

If funding is lost it will be in the form of resource people and materials which are more abundant in title 1 schools. But the budget was already set for next year and principals already spent the money on what they need.

ICE should be allowed to review which kids face disciplinary measures at schools the same as they review the list of people who get arrested.

People claiming that staff will be lost and funding will go away are spreading fear to make themselves feel good. Schools are currently interviewing to hire more SPED and ESOL teachers.
