Laptop bag for college-bound daughter

Totally. Not sure why this is a post. A nice computer bag is the equivalent of wearing height heels as you walk to class. A back pack is the most functional!

So... tell an 18 year old that what she wants isn't actually what she wants, and buy her what WE think she should have? Like we would for a 4 year old?

NP. Fancy laptop bags are definitely a thing on campus now. OP’s daughter knows what she wants and is on trend.

Good call on waiting til she gets to college and seeing what she wants once she's there. It would suck to get to school with a $500 bag and never use it because it stands out in the wrong way, or is impractical. And her birthday is in September! Plenty of time to get a sense of what would work best.

Then I’d go with something like the Cuyana. Portland leather also gets recommended here a lot. My daughter used a nverfull in college (splurge gift from my sister) and bought the Pyramid soon after college. $ for $, the Neverfull is absolutely not worth the money.

I have a Portland Leather tote and I’ve come to hate the fact that it is unlined. The “leather lint” gets on clothes (like if I throw a light sweater in my bag) and anything else that has the ability to rub against the sides. I retired it.

Same issue with unlined leather bags!!! I will never buy one again.

Mine had only 1 physical textbook last semester, but 5 this semester. She was pissed, haha.

She carts around her laptop, water bottle, iPad (for notetaking), textbook or 2, sometimes her sketchbook (for art class). Backpack is crucial.

Presumably OP’s daughter’s college campus will be much larger than her high school. The extra walking is often what drives the need for a backpack.

My daughter and I both have this Lululemon backpack. It's fantastic. Elegant enough for work in the city, durable enough for campus. She's messy and it still looks great a couple of years in.
