That Pyramid bag looks very nice! Bit more than I'd planned on spending though. We both loved what we saw at Shinola-- they seem like they'd age well-- but we agreed that $800-900 was too much for the purpose. I'm thinking $400-500 is more appropriate?
Good call on waiting til she gets to college and seeing what she wants once she's there. It would suck to get to school with a $500 bag and never use it because it stands out in the wrong way, or is impractical. And her birthday is in September! Plenty of time to get a sense of what would work best.
Then I’d go with something like the Cuyana. Portland leather also gets recommended here a lot. My daughter used a nverfull in college (splurge gift from my sister) and bought the Pyramid soon after college. $ for $, the Neverfull is absolutely not worth the money.
