Will filling in a blank 10x10 multiplication table a few times a week teach multiplication?

I think flash cards are better because you want to take the numbers out of sequence.

Remembering something like 8, 16, 24, etc... is different from remembering 8×7 on its own, but in testing and real life, that's what you encounter.

Why are people making it so complicated? Holy smokes. Flash cards. I hate math and have always been horrible at it but I never forgot my multiplication tables.

They need to learn the math facts, so this will accomplish that.

Of course they also need to understand what multiplication is outside of just memorizing that. I think they do a really good job in now school of teaching it many ways. But of course that leaves less time to practice to rote memorizing of the facts. We definitely found we needed support at home and for longer than we thought. We'd think our kid was good because they could fill out a math sheet of problems, but we really needed to do that routinely for the entire school year.

This is OP. My child’s been working on it all year. Yes we do flashcards. Math work now is starting to require and assume multiplication is down pat so I’m looking for other ways and other feedback. Thanks “100 problems PP” for the post! I’m going to start doing Minute challenges. 20 problems of 0-6 or maybe even just 0-5 in a minute. The 6s and 8s seem trickiest for my child for some reason. This morning’s practice said 4X6=36 three different times! So I guess that one was mismemorized.

A tip to help her with 6s - when you multiply 6 by an even number, the answer will end in the same number:
6x2=12
6x4=24
6x6=36
6x8=48

Actually, looking at this set, the 1st digit of the answer is 1/2 of the multiplier, although that pattern gets more complicated for multi-digit multipliers.

This is great thanks! I didn’t know this one. Also didn’t know about the answer for 9s adding up to 9.
