I can believe a bunch of things about why Trump didn't touch the Bible, but it's not just a formality. But hey nine of his supporters care, so.... so what?

It's less than a formality; it's totally meaningless at best, and blasphemous at worst. It's a personal private choice, like what lapel pin to wear, that has nothing to do with the function of government.

Obviously it’s the symbolism that matters given how he has exploited religion for political gains.

Plenty of people care - many news outlets f on Fox, to People, to NYT to various broadcast news channels to The Hill ran stories on this omission.

Oh, It's certainly newsworthy, but in the long run, it doesn't matter at all, to anyone except people like OP who are looking for another reason to hate Trump.

His supporters, many of whom are religious themselves, simply don't care.

Big plus one - it is so disturbing that he has hijacked evangelical Christians by exploiting wedge issues such as abortion and trans gender trends. Jesus had nothing to say about either abortion or homosexuality. Jesus had plenty to say about loving your neighbor as yourself, reaching out to the marginalized with compassion and helping the poor.

Plenty of us are deeply concerned about his misappropriating our faith for cynical political purposes. Many of my Jewish friends are deeply concerned also.
