If your child can’t handle 4-years in a college bubble in a state with different political leanings than you, then you are not doing a good job parenting and your child’s lack of resilience and flexibility is going to greatly hinder future success. Also, your lack of tolerance for different view points is exactly what you are accusing others of.

Very odd reply. You do realize that Auburn is in Alabama? Not avoiding the state. Just don’t love Bama the school.

DP Bama and Auburn are really not drastically different. Having a preference is fine, but some reflection is needed if one is a non-starter because again, they’re not that different.

They are very different. So different I don’t believe you’ve been to both campuses.

What are you talking about?

NP. They are indeed very, very different. The students are different. The campus vibe is different. The surrounding city is different. You don't know until you visit both.

Auburn has a stronger profile. How else are students different? How is the vibe different? City?

How about UGA?

DP but UGA OOS is no safety either.

Is Auburn a safety for kids that miss UGA?

I would not say that. It is an easier admit and many kids do apply to both. But it isn’t a “safety”

Auburn does not have the “stronger profile”. It does for engineering and I think architecture. But bio and business are better at Alabama.

Kids at Auburn are much more “polished” than the kids at ‘bama. It’s a preppier vibe. Town and campus is small and charming. My kid loved Auburn and absolutely hated Alabama.

Agree about the polished kids. And the friendly vibe felt more sincere. We are not from the South, and we love friendly but syrup freaks us out. It was a vibe. Bama Rush girls love their school. As they should. It just didn’t suit mine. Both have a high OOS percentage, which helps to broaden the experience. My child liked that Auburn had big SEC energy but felt a bit smaller and had a bougie streak. Also, a truly terrific competitive program for their specific course of study. Excellent job placement was sorted by Christmas before graduation. Close friend circle was guy/girl mix from Chicago, Georgia, California, Mass and Alabama.

Have you seen Bama Rush? You think those kids aren’t polished? Odd take.

Grew up with the magnet system in Alabama. Top magnet kids typically go to Auburn. It is very much a different vibe, a different size, and very much different types of students.

Similar to differences in VT and UVA. VT is bigger. UVA is smaller. One has a preppy vibe. Both good schools…

You don’t think Alabama is preppy?

Auburn is known for engineering and Alabama is not - I think that's where the stronger profile ideas come from.

That being said, my child was deferred and then rejected (before being accepted at two much more selective schools), so I would never consider it a safer foe engineering.

Also chiming in as someone who knows...there is a big difference between Bama and Auburn. Huge.
