Why would MCPS pick UMBC?

Can’t they do it at Strathmore or MC?

Strathmore seats fewer than 2000. A moderate HS has a graduating class over 600, some have 700+. Just 2 or 3 tickets per student?

MC has nothing more than a quarter that size.

Strathmore would be best. A central location for most MCP HS. Lots of space outside to set up chairs (or bring your own blankets for grass) for guests who can withstand various weather conditions and set up a huge screen for the outside guests to watch what's going on inside. Tickets 3 for inside, up to 2 for outside. Strathmore puts on many events they can do this. But what's the cost?

And a garage for parking, metro adjacent, bus lines too.

$19-21K for 2.5 hours.

Nope. You wait in a line outside and they let you in at 8 am. Just did this last week.

MC puts up an air conditioned tent (4000-5000 people) on their athletic field with full stage, multiple camera rigs, and adjacent restroom trailers. There’s tons of parking and they use their theatre for overflow. MC’s graduation is the week before Memorial Day. I don’t understand why MC and MCPS don’t partner together and keep the setup to run MCPS graduations there.

Probably the cost of an air-conditioned tent and all you described for 5000 people is over MCPS Budget.
