Is your kid quitting travel after this year?

My middle boy, by contrast, is at the same age now and still just as in love with soccer as he has always been.

Every kid is different and I've heard from many different people that U12/U13 is when some kids start to step back a bit from the higher level game.

That’s the age my son quit. He insisted he was done with soccer forever. But after 2 years off, he woke up one day and declared he was going back at u14. He’s now a sophomore exploring playing in college (D3). You never know!

I wish my upcoming 2012 would. She's a fine athlete, but soccer isn't her thing. She just wants to hang out with her friends. She's good enough to make a school team, but she doesn't put in any effort off the field. If she did, she would be much better and I could stomach the 2500 better

FYI. My 2012’s ECNL fee for next year is $4,750 (not in DCUMland anymore). Before travel costs and mandatory sleep away camp. That’s just the club fee. So could be a lot worse.

Not this year, but both of my kids quit travel in 9th/10th grade. They needed to focus more on academics in high school. Committing to 3-4 practices per week plus travel on the weekends got a bit too much.

They started playing high school Rec soccer. Still fun but a of less commitment.

most travel kids would not find playing rec soccer fun. My son would HATE it.

DS and several of his high school friends quit club soccer and did rec a few years ago. Drove themselves to crappy grass fields for practice and had a blast.

When I finally dropped travel/club soccer after many years and many injuries, I did a couple years of rec. It was fun to support a team where everyone was looking to you to pull them out of a bind, or help direct the game. It was a great way to release stress after years of non-stop high-tension soccer.

The kid better figure something out

I love this. My kid likes his coach and his team (not super competitive). So he will probably stick around. But I wish he would find some kids he likes who are interested in putting together a fun rec team.

Just so much sh*t and unfairness and club closures and mergers and injuries (that f***d them when new coaches showed up who didn't know them).

Rising Jr needs to find a team. The same absolute BS happened to older brother at this same age. He eventually landed on a MLSNext team where he was able to start this past year. But, my god, the politics and BS that he encountered was outrageous. He is playing in college next year.

Rising Jr was victim of circumstances and left w.out a home so will be trying to find one this Fall. Plans to quit HS soccer, not Club, like older sibling because he also has a very tough academic load Jr year and wants to play in college too.

I just want to say that I see you and I am sorry. Same thing happened to us. It happened to a lot of kids, unfortunately. The clubs were not honest about the process, did not keep their commitment (and before some smug person comes in her to chide me - I know, I get it, they do that, but it’s still sad to see a bunch of kids displaced with very little notice).

Obnoxious humble brag.

How are kids left without a club/home at this time of year? Bumped from top team and don’t want to tryout for lower team or other clubs? All the players and coach leaving? Seems there would be options now during tryout season
