Well this weight loss is depressing as hell

Have you tried 1x. XXL and 2x are not the same.

It technically goes L, XL, XXL, 1x, 2x, etc.

This. XXL is not 2x. The cut is completely different, and for those of us with boobs/bellies, it really does matter. Look at a size chart for whatever brand of shirt you were trying on, and note the differences. If you could get an XXL to look the way your 2x usually looks, it's because you lost weight!

I'd suggest having some non-scale goals while you're working on "onederland" (if that's your aim). How's your mobility? Can you walk longer distances than when you started? Do you need fewer breaks? When I started losing weight (again), i noticed how much easier it was to breathe because my cardio health was improving much faster than my scale numbers were dropping.

If it's just about the numbers, you'll be depressed. Look for the other wins and congratulate yourself on what you've accomplished so far. Then, keep going. One day at a time!

Ugh, I’m sorry. It is so frustrating. Yeah, I’d need to lose 50lbs or so to go down a size from my stretchy 2x. It’s disheartening.

Have you tried taking measurements? Maybe start with some around the waist, the hip/butt, the arm, and the thigh. Since you've lost 40 pounds already, I'm sure you'll be able to lose more and then you'll be able to track changes in body circumference, even if you can't visually.

Another thing you might want to do is start exercising, specifically weight training. This will help you retain/gain muscle mass, which is what really makes people look good. I've gained 2 lbs in the past year, but my stomach actually looks better because, after doing some sit ups every single day, now you can see some muscle definition and before it was just flab.

OP here. I don't have a tape measure though I've thought about getting one. I walk 8-10K a day generally, and do weights three times a week since last fall. The shape of my arms have changed and I notice when I lift heavy things arm muscles are engaged rather than back muscles. Funny you mention sit-ups - I was actually thinking of doing some sort of stomach stuff on my non-arm days.

Then don’t use a tape measure. Use string or ribbon. You can write the date and body part on the ribbon.

When ever you’re feeling down you can pull out the waist ribbon from 20 pounds ago for motivation to keep going.

It’s better not to have numbers. You will definitely see progress.

In my experience you lose inches or pounds, one at a time, not both together. Especially if you're working out, not just dieting. So keep going and the next "what's going on here" milestone will be being down 2 pants sizes but the scale hasn't moved. Still improving.

I can confirm that, I lost several inches and zero pounds. It was only through working out. I'm not gaining any visible muscle or lifting weights, very odd.

We are all different. Not OP, but 5’7” and 220, and I’m an 18.

Yep. I started at 225 and wore all the same clothes until I’d dropped 50lbs and then dropped from a 16p to a 12p seemingly overnight. I’m 65ish pounds down now. When I look in the mirror, I still see the exact same fat person I have been all along, so I assume others see the same.

It’s a headfluck.

22lbs to a normal BMI. 37 more to goal. I’ll never be objectively thin, but at least “fat” won’t be the first thing people think when they see me.

Your goal weight is 123 pounds? You will be thin then, for sure.

I bet you are looking good already.

I’m at 242 (down from 248!) and I cannot say enough good things about Pilates mat exercises. I found a gal on instagram (or, more accurately, the algorithm suggested it to me a while ago) who said something along the lines of “start with a minute a day, every day” and keep going. I like that you have to engage your core and use your own body weight for a lot of the exercises, but you lift so it might not be “enough” for you. But it sure makes me able to tighten up my abs.

Can you share a link to the exact workout you do? NP.

I’m short – 5’1” and thanks. I think I probably look better, but definitely still solidly overweight. Even 30 years ago in college when I did weigh 120, I was considered chunky, but at 50 I think lower than that would make me look sick or old. My husband recently left and my ego is shot, so I just want to get to a point where people don’t automatically think “of course he left, just look at her.”
