Hayden or Holden?

What? These are supposed to be names? I read the title and had no idea what this thread was about.

Samuel or James.

And I love Catcher in the Rye but I wouldn’t name a son after him/knowing that that is the only reference most people will have. That being said, the rising generation is nearly illiterate so it may not matter. But Gen X and I think Millenniels know.

I wouldn't want an association with J.D. Salinger anymore.

Private school choices.

I have never heard of a boy named Hayden, is it one of those names that used to be for boys but is now exclusively girls? Like Ashley? I thought this post was about how you were excited to find out if you were having a girl (Hayden) or boy (Holden)

I’m mid 40s and vaguely recall reading Catcher in the Rye in high school but would have had no idea there was a character Holden. I know a couple of adult men Holden.

What about Hayes? I know two little boys named Hayes and think it’s cute!

Hayden. Love all the middle names.

No.

Holden because people will at least think you like the book and hence picked the name.

Hayden sounds made-up / trying to hard.

Holden sounds more male to me. I think of William Holden. For Hayden I think of Hayden Panettiere. Although I would not be shocked to meet a girl with either name. And your post doesn’t clarify which sex you are having.

Sorry, reread. The middle names suggest a boy!

No. Holden is such a detestable character, I’d never name my kid that.

Between those two options, Holden. Better people think you're making a literary reference than Save the Cheerleader, Save the World.

I think these are both nice names. There are definitely some female Haydens. I don't get all the hate for Holden Caulfield. He's not supposed to be a sympathetic character -- that's the point.

Scott is a nice choice for a MN. Nearly every boy right now has James for either a first or middle name.
